Ty Floyd has improved believe it or not, although he is still inconsistent. Edwards was really improved until injury. And we have had 3 freshman pitchers perform at a high level

Skenes is vastly improved from what he was last year. Collins improved velocity. Herring, Guidry, Taylor, Edwards.

I would say, I was hoping for more improvement from Little and Hurd but the year isn't over.

Our team ERA, WHIP, & B/AVG are all better so far this season than last.

2022: ERA - 4.32, WHIP - 1.33, B/AVG - .240

2023: ERA - 3.98, WHIP - 1.18, B/AVG - .201

Ty Floyd, Garret Edwards are two that really stick out.

Someone of you seem to forget the state of our pitching staff last year.

The pitching stats show that our pitching is improved this year.

Regardless, I’m fascinated by the thought process that goes into thinking that a pitching coach can just magically make any pitcher an ace.

Paul Skenes has taken a jump for mid 1st rd pick to a guy that won’t get out of the top 3.

Edwards went from a guy who was very clearly a 4yr player to an early round pick in this coming draft if he did not get hurt

So those two for sure. But I don’t think he has been flawless, either. Floyd & Hurd have regressed. On a smaller note, Cooper & Collins have as well.

Floyd is so strange. It is like he improved and regressed all at the same time. Hopefully it comes together because I don't think he will be able to come out of the rotation out of necessity.

Hurd is tricky. I think people forget that Hurd was a primary catcher until his senior year of high school. He is still learning how to be a pitcher and on top of that he may be healthy but his brain is just not trusting his body. To me it seems a bit mental and rust. I feel with some time and maybe a different role for this season Hurd can be really good. Thinking maybe a set up guy to get to Guidry eventually so he can only have to worry about throwing 1-2 innings at a time.

Cooper is a mystery and hopefully the somewhat decent outings Collins has had recently keep him moving in that direction.

Part of the confusion on Ty Floyd is that I believe the strike zone has been significantly shrunk for SEC games.

Consistently I see the Game 2 and Game 3 pitchers for a lot of teams exit in the 3rd or 4th with 60-70 pitches.

It’s probably shrunk all around but in a pinch Skenes can just overpower people.

Indeed...but some look for something to question or gripe about.

Mickey you are mixing apples and oranges. The OP asks which individuals have improved. Comparing last year’s team with this year’s team misses the mark. Many of last year’s pitchers moved on and we have quite a few new pitchers. I think you have to look on a case by case basis and even then that’s tricky because the season is only half over.

I think it’s best to wait before any definitive judgments can be made, but the early grades would indicate to me that we have more that have improved than we’ve had regress.

Let’s just hope that by SEC tournament time we show even more improvement and our staff overall cones around. I am optimistic despite the injuries because I see a lot of talent there.
