What is the knock against Devin White in the pros?

Noticed he is now a backup in Philly. He was all world in college and seemed to be off to a good start in Tampa.

Apparently he takes bad angles

Overruns plays. Missing tackles.
Isn't great at diagnosing plays.

Last year a former NFL linebacker posted something on Twitter (I think) about white, the gist of which was that he just freestyles and doesn't play the scheme. I have no idea if that's true. He did seem to play really well the first few years he was in the league.

Kind of a head scratcher, how you can have all that talent and not be a starter in the NFL. My best guess is doesn’t get off blocks well.

He’s truly awful in coverage and always has been. He’s a very poor tackler too. He’s totally boom or bust, plays out of control. He’s been a bad NFL LB for several years now.

You can't get away with being just an athlete at LB in the NFL very long. You have to learn to play disciplined football, and Devin never has. It wasn't apparent in college because his athletic ability allowed him to recover or the qb on the other team often wasn't good enough to make him pay. If they find out you'll overcommit to make a play in the NFL you can bet they're going to exploit it.

Behind former saint Zach Braun. Wow.

Made the all rookie team. Then a pro bowl. He was good in the beginning of his NFL career.

The last couple of years in Tampa he got a bad reputation for taking plays off. Even got called out for it by the national media. And, frankly, the examples they used to show it were pretty clear; he was pulling up when he could have made a play.
Hey, he's always a Tiger, but the last few years haven't been kind to him.
GEAUX TIGERS!

He did this at LSU too, he was just so athletic that he cleaned up his own mistakes.

I don’t think he ever really had very good PFF grades and teams started to figure out he plays out of control quite a bit and used it against him. Hell of an athlete, but not very disciplined and pretty bad in coverage. The league will find your weakness quick and exploit it if it’s not corrected.

Because there are 50 guys playing LB in the NFL that are just as good or better than Devin White

His career earrings are $45 million+ to date, now in his 6th season, not sure that is a “bust” at all. Very solid LB.

He’s just horsin’ around this year.

In my honest opinion, I believe some people take plays off or get lazy after they get paid. Few examples come to mind such as Jimbo, Ed O, Michael Thomas, I’m sure there’s more.
And I get it, yes football is work but it’s really not a job, it’s a sport/hobby that you’ve played since childhood and you’re getting paid MILLIONS. Some people (and I’d be one of them) slack off once “making it”. Now “making it” is different for everyone. Ed “quit” once he won a title. Jimbo quit once he got paid.
Not saying Devin White is quitting at all but film doesn’t lie.

He's a backup with a Superbowl ring as a starter at Tampa. He just fine.

Think you meant 50 million. Big difference

Wish he could go to the Texans and be mentored by Demeco

He’s not as all-world and unbelievable as all the LSU fans thought he was when he was in college. LSU has had other linebackers who have been just as good or better.
The NFL is exposing him. You can’t just bully people in the NFL. You have to be a student of the game and use good technique.
