What is it that makes LSU football so important to us

I'm as big a fan as most on here and in reading all posts and threads I begin to wonder what it is that makes LSU football (and maybe football in general) so important to us?? Why do we become so consumed by it? I do love it but just wonder. Look forward to replies.

because my dad took me to games when i was young. and, we were wearing purple. so......i'm biased to purple unlike most. it was the prettiest thing that my eyes had seen at the time.

My family was always watching games when I was little, so I too began cheering for the team in the yellow helmet. Then some of my favorite experiences with my father are at LSU football and baseball games.
Not to mention it represents the entire state we live in.

You basically grew up around LSU Football and have never had anything better to do, so you continue to do what feels comfortable.

Tribal tendencies and a sense of belonging within a group.

Lack of entertainment alternatives. It's the Coachella of Baton Rouge.

Part of Louisiana life... rare that you have a state with just 1 "main" college football team...unlike a texas who has like 7...It's something you are grown up on even if you do not attend LSU

I also grew up in Louisiana (North Louisiana ) and even though I no longer live there, I still consider it "home" and always will. As such, LSU represents my home and I too went to a few games with my father when I was very young (sat in the South upper) and we would get there in time to watch the other team come out on the field in street clothes and "inspect". 62 years old and been a fan for probably 57 of those I just love it!

Grew up in Alabama my entire life but...My Dad play football at LSU 70-74, my mom was a cheerleader at LSU, her mom (my grandmother) was a cheerleader at LSU, her dad (my grandfather) played baseball, ran track and is in the LSU basketball hall of fame. It was ingrained in my DNA from birth.

Ive grown up with it my whole life... Sometimes I wish I wasn't so emotionally invested and I try to tell myself how stupid it is to get mad but that never works

Louisiana (specifically, Baton Rouge) born and bred. I wanted to go to LSU for as long as I can remember. That desire led to a couple of what many would consider poor decisions.
1. I turned down better scholarship offers from much higher-ranked schools. My heart belongs to LSU.
2. I had the credits to graduate at the end of my junior year but deferred it until December of my senior year. I wanted all FOUR of my student section football seasons.
I never missed a home game those 4 years. Want to know what four years those were? The Hallman years. 1991 (5-6), 1992 (2-9), 1993 (5-6), and 1994 (4-7). (Y’all young’uns don’t know how good you’ve had it.) I’ve never regretted those decisions. I had the time of my life.
After graduation, I left Louisiana to go to law school and have never moved back. But . . .
Louisiana is my home.
LSU is my school.
The Tigers are my team.
Its fans are my people.
It’s much more than where I’m from and who I root for. All of this makes up who I AM. I have a 9-year old. She’s a North Carolina girl raised on jambalaya and gumbo, purple and gold, Hey Fightin’ Tigers and Callin’ Baton Rouge. She can tell you all about “Bebe” and “Joe Burrow” and “that running back, I forget his long last name but I know his first name in Clyde.” I’ve explained to her that I’ve raised her this way not just because I want her to be a Tiger fan (though of course I do). I’ve told her it’s because if she doesn’t truly understand all of that, she doesn’t really know her mama at all.

Having lived in other states. One unique thing I found about Louisiana is how often we have large shindigs at each others homes. In addition here in Louisiana seemingly everybody can cook jambalaya, gumbo, and other dishes that feed a lot of people when we do get together. And one of the reasons we traditionally get together is for LSU football games on Saturday.

I was 4 years old when LSU won the national championship in 1958. I remember my dad and my uncles excitedly discussing LSU that year and in the next few years the names Cannon, Stovall, Dietsel and others became part of my lingo. I didn't know what LSU was, exactly, but I knew I wanted to be part of it!

I grew up on LSU football, attended LSU, made my best friends there, met my wife there. It's a part of me. LSU is my alma mater. Fond memories attending LSU football games as a kid, and later as a student wakens a tender glow that recalls a familiar love of the place. LSU molded me into a man. It's worth is my worth, and it's spirit lives in me. Forever.

I love to sit in traffic after games. 8 Saturdays per year of pure bliss.
