I guess the only way I could agree with Scoob is in the context that a well-coached LSU team WILL be in contention for championships (10-2 or better at least), and if they aren’t, it’s because they aren’t well-coached (absent a slough of catastrophic injuries).

Scoob - I usually agree with you, but this is absurd.

Our new standard isn't competing for championships, but instead is now a "well-coached team that plays hard"???

What about winning? What about being in the mix for championships? We fired Miles because he wasn't doing this.
Yeah, judging from the replies, it's clear I worded things badly.

I absolutely don't want to "settle", I thought the O hire was a mistake, and nothing has changed my mind yet.

Here's my point, trying to clarify:
There are 2 types of losses, and the impression you get from them.

There's the game where you say "man, we really played our asses off, but ____ is just a better team. Nothing to be ashamed of, team should hold their heads high. When we get more horses in, we'll beat them".

And then, there's the game where you say "Jeez, how in the frick did we lose that? It's like the team has it's head up it's arse. We should have won this game. This SUCKS".
Florida '16, Troy last year, Miss St last year, Notre Dame last year.

If we get rid of all the 2nd type, then it's acceptable.

I don't want to lose any games, but if Bama and Georgia are better this year, and we play our best and lose, we at least can see the team is becoming competent.
If we lose games that we should have won, then it's not.

make more sense?

The fact that 2 people have told you that you’re wrong and explained why abd you still think that you’re right is hilarious.

That’s objective at best.

Scoob, this is spot on.

Good clarification.

I agree with you Scoob.

The people who say that it’s 10 wins or a NC or fire O are just looking for a reason to fire O.

We have 4 games next year against teams with objectively equal or better talent that us. If we play well and lose some, I’m ok with it.

There are 2 things that i think we shouldn’t tolerate in 2018:

1) losing to teams that we are better than.

2) getting swept by the 4 teams that are equal in talent (or more talented).

I think that as long as we beat the teams that we are supposed to and go 1-3 or 2-2 or better against the “big 4”, it’s a successful season.

You, and people like you, who call themselves "lsu fans" are absurd. Yall aren't LSU fans. You want lsu do to poorly this season so you can fire O? What a ridiculous logic.

Assuming strength of schedule holds up I could live with 9-3. This is our toughest schedule since 2011. 10-2 or better and the staff is probably better than anyone here thought.

Obviously the goals should be to win the west and sec

Those coaches got fired because they couldn’t beat
a depleted, young, coach O coached LSU team.....

Some of those coaches beat Miles though...

I imagine if O sticks around a few more years you'll see people hoping for 8 wins and considering it a success if we get it.

The OP said "acceptable". I don't think the bar has ever been so high that it was unacceptable not to be in the NC hunt. I think we expect to be competing for the west and anything after that is gravy.

Your shitty logic is nothing but nonsense and a poor attempt to be cute while trying to tie a multitude individual issues that have zero relation other than them happening during O being here.

You mean like the multitude of issues that have zero relation other than them happening to other coaches in other situations? Yeah I agree, Saban/UAB, Dabo/Coordinator, Smart/8-5 - none of these situations mean we should excuse O for missteps.

quote:

You certainly alluded to Saban winning a title in year 2 and multiple times tried to tie it all together by only giving O "two years" like Saban and Smart.

Reading comprehension. No I didn't. I alluded to the O comparisons to Saban via the UTroy/UAB losses and Saban's future NC's/success. That's it. 2 Years was specific to Smart.

quote:

I would hate for this gem to get lost.

You mean the stupid logic of saying O has to appear in the national championship in Year 2 because Smart did? I'm glad we're on the same page. Now, let's hope we never see O compared to Saban, Dabo, and Smart again. Or at least wait until O has appeared in or won an NC, then he can be compared to that group.

LOL, yeah because that was the only game they lost in '17.

And Miles beat those coaches.
What do different teams from totally different years have to do with Orgeron?
Are you on some transitive logic trip?

Three losses next year would be a good coaching job

2 would be great

1 would need a statue built.

We will lose 5-6.

Anything below A) equals “we should have kept Les Miles” in my opinion.

Why? A change needed to be made. We made a bad decision.
- The rest of the conference upgraded. We didn’t.
- Our biggest divisional whipping post just hired the guy we couldn’t close.... Twice. Then we had to shell out almost as much as were paying our head coach to keep our DC from going to said whipping post.
- We fired a bright young OC and replaced him with a guy that hasn’t assembled a playbook in this century. And the ones he did before were underwhelming.

I just want this era to be over with. Bid farewell to Alleva and Orgeron and move on.
