I hear that Paxton Kling will be a draft eligible sophomore next year. How does that work?
I don’t know all of the MLB draft rules other than someone can sign right after high school or choose to attend college for 3 years.

I believe your birthdate has something to do with it.

If you turn 21 before the draft you are eligible.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

Attend college for 3 years or turn 21 in order to be eligible for the draft or re-drafted...

If you turn 21 within 45 days of the draft day you are eligible to enter the draft

It’s not uncommon. If a kid was held back at a young age, he’ll be 21. Nowadays, you’re starting to see some really elite players who were held back when they were younger reclassify in high school.

Kling better have a monster year next year or it won’t matter if he is draft eligible

Players at four-year colleges and universities are eligible three years after first enrolling in such an institution, or after their 21st birthdays (whichever occurs first). Junior and community college players are eligible to be drafted at any time

21 years old for your second year of college is interesting.

So is Jared Jones. I don't remember if Shores is or not but we have 2 big name players for next year who could be casualties to the draft.

I believe they changed it to a fixed date every year so to be eligible it’s either 3 years play or 21 on or before August 1st.
