from what I remember [Arnsparger] hated recruiting

It was a reason he gave to quit. He was good at it, but doesn't mean he liked it. He went pretty much straight into being AD for Florida, then I'm pretty sure he went back to being a DC in the NFL.

That may explain 3 of his 11 years.

…which included his 2 loss NC season. How the ‘06 team didn’t win is all is beyond me. Oh yeah, Les Miles is the reason.

BK will be judged on one thing only. Winning it all. That's it.

Probably true but some will remember what he took over when no one else had the chest for the task.

He also kept it going and recruited more talent.

Coach O inherited a gold mine of talent of talent also and left the program in bad shape

BK did not

This was a game between No. 3 Auburn and No. 6 LSU. This was the first away game for the Tigers, and it would be controversial one. LSU came into the game with a string of 14 quarters without allowing a touchdown, they also came in with the best defense in the country. It would go down to the last play of the game. This game would have two elements: two punishing defenses, a pivotal officials' call that left both sides a bit perplexed and some follies in the kicking game. With LSU facing fourth-and-8 from Auburn's 31 and 2:43 left, JaMarcus Russell fired the ball to Early Doucet near the goal line. A diving Eric Brock deflected the pass, but Zach Gilbert was called for pass interference that would have kept the drive alive. The officials overturned the call, although replays showed the contact came before the ball was tipped by Brock. On the whole, there were anywhere between 5 and 8 questionable calls against LSU, and LSU fans felt cheated by the outcome, giving this game the nickname Grand Theft Auburn. The Tigers drove to Auburn's 24 with 2.5 seconds left as Russell hooked up with Craig Davis for gains of 20 and 21 yards and Dwayne Bowe for 21. On the final play, Russell went to Davis again. The receiver caught the pass inside the 10, but Brock stopped him cold with a jarring hit at the 4. "It was a low throw on the final play, but it was not JaMarcus' fault", Davis said. "I was expecting it to be a jump ball in the end zone." Underscoring the physical nature of the game, the two teams combined for less than 2 yards a rush on 61 combined carries.

This is why.

I’m also in a mental institution and I play in my feces.

For ref: Archer 59.8% Hallman 36.4% Dinardo 57.0%

I have to admit. That 36.4% got me decent season tickets in 1994…..

Hallman 36.4%

Is that for real? How could an LSU coach be that bad?

I think DiNardo had a better winning % at Vandy than that.

The debacle in Gainesville was the other part.
- 3 ints
- Fumble on UFs goal line
- Fumbled the 2nd half KO
- Had a punt blocked

Saban and Arnparger won exactly 75% of their games as HC at LSU.

Through his first 44 games, Brian Kelly has also won exactly 75% of his games.

For reference, Les Miles won 77%, Orgeron 71.8%, and Chollie Mac 68.2%

IMO, stats that compare % across eras need to account for initial conditions. Cholly Mac's start was a little before my time but where Saban and BK started was very different than Les and Ed.

Other factors are the conference changes, schedule strengths, and the portal. No idea how much any of these affected things, only to say they haven't been unifrom across the seasons.

Correct. That was against a very strong Florida squad that went on to win the NC. If the auburn game is fair from the refs, we win. Then who knows what that does to confidence going into Gainesville. Also with only one loss we would have gotten the rematch in SECCG. And our team on turf in a dome would have been tough to beat.

But hey, it’s easy to blame it on Miles. He is only the winningest coach in LSU history, and put teams on the field that were tough and had many memorable wins. So yep he was terrible. Say the people who are too smart to be head coach and get 10 wins a season for close to a decade. It was a total disaster. Say those that think coach O is great because 2019 and he is a character, while he is really a POS embarrassment that wanted all the glory and stole 17million because he was a lazy failure. So yes Miles was at fault.

Good grief.

The point is not that he was winning with Saban's players, it's that his record was not tarnished during a rebuild.

Very good point. Miles was a very good coach who did not have to suffer five or six loss seasons during a rebuild. His average would be a little lower had he taken over from anyone other than Saban.

It's not always about how many games you win. It's about WHAT games you win. You know, like conference championship games, playoff games, NCAA championship games....that kind of thing.

.432, but LSU hired him anyway.
