TBH I think we got lucky last year in terms of moving the ball. WE also had a more seasoned offense last year. Etling by that time had about 2 years under center and was in some what of a sync with Chark and to a lesser extent Gage and Moreau......and he had 2 RB's that had 3 and 4 years of playing, respectively.....even then our only big play last year was a wildcat run by D. Williams.....The defense also played lights out last year
Burrow has played 1/2 of a season and our RB's are essentially playing their first year as starters with any meaningful playing time. Our O line has many weaknesses and it's been apparent all season long.....just go back to the SLU game....they(SLU) were getting good penetration.
Our WR's are going to be good, but someone has to work with them and identify who the game changer is and teach them to stretch zones and find those gaps.
But, that being said, I was on the sideline before the game Sat. night, the difference between their players and ours is stark up close. Their DB's particularly the safties are almost LB size and the LB's are pretty big as well....bigger than ours. Saban basically has a pro team out there in terms of size....we don't, GA does not either.

Canada put daryl williams in wildcat with a guy in motion with a fake handoff. This is what they get paid to do. This is way too creative for O and E.

Misdirection, mostly. All those moving pieces look stupid on the TV screen, but they really do serve a purpose.
Watching the NFL proves this. Some of the more innovative offenses employ a lot of pre-snap movement. Announcers even comment on it.
As a non expert, I think back to last year and laugh about the comments that Canada's offense was the same old crap with a bunch of meaningless movement.

Shifted formations and alignments in order to out-flank the defense (3 blockers to 2 defenders type of thing).

He used a lot of misdirection and sideline-to-sideline motion to set up jet sweeps and read options off of the jet sweeps.
This kept their DL and LBs on their heels.
We should've implemented some of that against Bama and added a short passing game. We could do both out of 3/4 wide and spread the field with quickly developing plays.
Instead, we went pro style right into their strengths with long developing plays. It was embarrassing.

The shifting
and motions and triple options off MOST plays. matt used whole field horizontally and vertically.
we had three deep balls either dropped or overthrown that coulda been TD's last year. would have changed the whole game. ON THE ROAD. people are just now wanting to understand Matt's offense? after shitting on it? i have explained it over and over here. good to see people finally waking up.
BTW where is THE FIRST CUT who said matt sucked and E would be great?

Nothing else you said after this matters. My gosh...come on man.

not in the scoring...but IN THE NEED TO SCORE MANY MORE POINTS.
And yet the question asked by the OP was "What did Matt Canada do differently last year to MOVE THE BALL?"
Regardless of how many points we needed to score we could not even move the ball. The defense might play better and Tua may be less of a factor if our offense did not have so many 3 and outs.
The numbers are below. Clearly, a better scheme is needed if we want to be a top team. I know we can't win an NC every year, but we at least need to be competitive. This is not competitive.
LSU's Drives were
First Half
5 plays, 10 yards, 2:12
3 plays, 3 yards 1:37
6 plays, 40 yards 1:55
9 plays, 18 yards 2:27
3 plays, 1 yard 1:45
3 plays, 5 yards, 33 seconds
Total First half plays --- 29, TOP 10:29
Second Half
3 plays, 4 yards, 1:57
5 plays, 11 yards 2:30
8 plays, 2 yards, 1:43
12 plays, 64 yards, 5:56 (missed FG)
9 plays, 63 yards, 2:07
Note that our two longest drives were in the 4th quarter. 3 out of our 5 third down conversions were on the last 2 drives. Wonder why?

IDK about that. everybody said O line and Wr should be seasoned this year and be great
everybody has said burrow> etling
this years line was supposed to be> than last years
this years WR> than last years
so the goalposts have moved?

So MC presnap motions were so good is frustrated our own head coach.

I think against lesser opponents he used them too much, especially when the line clearly hadn't learned the system completely yet.
That pissed off Orgeron.
Against Bama, we had 2 weeks, the team learned the scheme well and we actually needed the misdirection stuff.
There's a happy medium. A perfect example is Andy Reid. He puts in some jet sweep/misdirection looks and credits Canada with the idea. But that is just a wrinkle in the offense.

which is why the scheme running straight at them is an odd choice
the only schematic thing we did to try to make them at least pause was play action - with no working running game that is a foolish idea that only works to slow down the play development and make your QB a sitting duck behind bad OL play

Different O Line IMHO.
Also, not TUA as the QB.
Bama had the #1 rush D last year heading into the game. They are still not in the top 10 even after the LSU game this year.
Tua has nothing to do with why we couldn't average 1 yard per carry.
Ensminger had nothing to throw Bama off even with their domination of the O-line. No jet sweeps. No reverses. No wildcats. No delay draw plays. Nothing.

here was a lot of lateral movement, IIRC: not trying to push Alabama back, but just move them left or right.

Weathersby, clapp, and Ingram did not play this year. Fact. 3 out of 5 o lineman. Who got manhandled this year? Oline.

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in that performance last year.
It wasn't a masterpiece. We had 306 yards, of which 54 came on a single D Williams run from the wildcat.
As someone else stated, the offensive line was better overall.
It's pointless to talk about Canada. He was a bad hire. Orgeron didn't do his due diligence in hiring him and it was destined to be a flustercuck.

the scheme
You guys kepp talking scheme, scheme, scheme!!!!! Like some sort of individual scheme formulated over a two week period was going to work with a really really smart guy out there at OC formulating and educating his players.
Alabama is producing a UCLA basketball/ Green Bay Packer of the 1960's scheme wherin they neutralize your strengths. I did not fully realize it until Saturday night after seeing their players, watching them warm up and do drills and then watching the game . Saban has enough 5 Star athletes and high end 4 stars stockpiled and "trained" in his "process" that he's up on everyone in the SEC and country by about 3-5 years . They are disciplined when they line up and they are stronger than their opponents...physically and mentally.
Some team in the playoff might get lucky in the next 2-3 years against them, but I'm seeing at least 2 more NC's.It won't even be close when they win them. Clemson might get close, but I don't see it.

Please let that be sarcasm. Because that's actually EXACTLY what needs to happen.
