Misdirection, mostly. All those moving pieces look stupid on the TV screen, but they really do serve a purpose.

Different O Line IMHO.
Also, not TUA as the QB.

I keep forgetting that Tua plays defense.

we were the 3rd ranked team in the country and bama really wanted to make a statement...i think that is the biggest difference.

as much hate as Canada got, his SCHEME kept bama from attacking and made them play honest. That's what a good scheme does. You might not have liked his offense but it kept them honest. Too many posters don't understand scheme.

He actually tried to take advantage of gump weaknesses. SE did nothing and the offense scored nothing.

Teams with worse Olines that LSU have moved the ball and get this, scored on Bama

For starters, he didn't try to beat them with the play action all game long, when the Bama d-line was in the backfield after 2 seconds.

His scheme sort of masked the weaknesses on the O-Line. It's mighty funny our O-Line looked pretty ok last season against sabambam's D-Line, yet this year it looked as awful as awful can get.

Canada wasn't a great OC but he did understand how to pinpoint weaknesses and exploit them. He knew how to look at film and scheme against the team he was playing against. It's not really that hard to figure out honestly. Ensminger doesn't do that. He runs the same offense regardless of the opponent just like we did under Miles. Teams just look at film and realize this and it's not exactly hard to stop when you know exactly what's coming every single play.

Last year:
Pre-snap reads LSU showed one thing, did another, so BAMA couldn't just run straight up the field over and over

The shifting caused the BAMA defense to move and shift their responsibilities which made them think more

What we did Saturday night was so vanilla we made them faster by not forcing them to think at all. There was no need for read and recognize, all they had to do was go get the football.

That's not an excuse to not score a single point, at home.

What did Canada do?

1) On the OL, there was a lot of lateral movement, IIRC: not trying to push Alabama back, but just move them left or right. So the DL penetrated, but the OL would just sort of move that penetration in one direction or the other, giving the RB some space -- beat the LB and they gain yardage.

2) The pre-snap movement screws with the defense. I read that Saban went to Canada to ask him why he did it before Canada worked at LSU, and Canada told Saban it catches the eye and can cause the defense to hesitate for a split second, giving the offense an advantage.

3) Utilized a more successful rushing attack to create some balance. IIRC, LSU had some missed opportunities in the passing game and they had bad throws / dropped passes (?) -- the chances were there, importantly.

Canada used a few different techniques to get some yardage. LSU outgained Alabama last year, for the record.

The stuff Canada did as it turns out O absolutely despised, yet the shite worked pretty well, just needed a more accurate QB and could've been very good.
