He said LSU’s defense was not prepared for Marcel Reed to come in the game.

I tend to think Nick Saban knows what he’s talking about.

Nick Saban wasn't prepared for Matt Jones. Dude single handedly ruined our SEC championship hopes in 2002.
It happens.

The one small silver lining in the loss to aTm and the way it happened is that we know now we have to defend Milroe the runner a lot better than we did vs Reed.

This is a good point I think Milroe ran for 120 yards last year.

Like they weren’t prepared when Jefferson came in.

He’s been there.

But we had to prepare for running QBs several times this year. Our defense couldn’t remember what we did all those games? I think that’s what Kelly talking about.
That being said, it falls on the coaching staff to reinforce that on the sidelines. Should’ve been better all around.

Wow, he must be a football guru or something if he could recognize that so easily, when it escaped recognition by almost 1% of all LSU fans.

Kelly argued that all theh did was Read Option and we have seen that all year.

I’m posting it because of many of the comments I’ve read on this board over the last week saying otherwise.

ONCE AGAIN
NCAA allows 20 hrs a week to prepare for an opponent:
Meetings
Film study
Actual practice
Weight training
Etc.

That 20 hrs is for EVERYTHING.

With that, LSU was beaten by Weigman just 2 years ago in College Station AND PLAYED MULTIPLE READ OPTION QBs this season INCLUDING ONE THE WEEK BEFORE VERY SIMILAR TO the A&M QB. Simmons at SCe being one gave them fits until his injury.
So, to say they weren’t prepared for that style QB is just flat wrong.

There were exactly 2 issues:
The TAMU RB is the best they have seen all season and the Oline is pretty damn good.

They are TOO SLOW and not great at holding the edge. There were several instances where Weeks tried to arm tackle where the QB blew by him. That is reading and reacting.

That is the just the defense. Then there was the whole “short field” shite on offense?

Thanks for the confirmation, Nick.

Even Jason Folse knew that a week ago.

We know what happened. LSU has prepared for dual threat QB’s already this year, so they thought they would be fine with that preparation in the event that Reed came in. Obviously it wasn’t enough. It is what it is.

Simmons at SCe and Taylen Green at Arky are EXACTLY that style of Qb and better passers…
