Yeah, it was shockingly not close after Clemson went up 17 - 7.
The only time I ever felt iffy - in any game in 2019 - was when Bama started to come back. And even then, I was saying, "I don't think this Bama team can score 50 - and they will have to in order to beat us."
What a game, what a season, baws?

I believe Lou Holtz was credited years ago for saying when the other team starts running trick plays they know you are better than they are. I know Lou is not the most beloved character in college football, but that has always stuck with me and, more times than not, it’s true.
Clemson’s 2nd td came on a reverse. Look at Oklahoma’s game plan. Several trick plays in the first half while the game was still “close”
I don’t remember LSU running a trick play in 2019. Why? Because they knew they were better than the team on the other side of the ball.

When Greeny made that rant about LSU's case for the greatest CFB ever and pointed out that score, even though I had watched the game, it never dawned on me how significant that was, to pull that off against the defending champs, against that defense.
A team that was undefeated for two years and dismantled Alabama’s D with a Freshman qb and freshman receiver and returned virtually their entire starting offense but more experienced...
Very impressive.

The Clemson fans to a man around me, admitted LSU was better team, and offers congrats on being by far best team

Yeah, if the lineman hadn't been downfield, the butt kicking would have started much earlier.
No doubt in my mind that if that doesn’t get called down we go up 7 and never trail.

Because we had 3 weapons who could potentially score on most of the stock plays from almost anywhere on the field.
You don't need trick plays when your offense averages 4 passing TDs per game.
FFS - typing it out makes me have to process that.
Joe Burrow's AVERAGE game stat line in 2019 looked like this:
35 attempts, 27 completions, 378 yards, 4 TDs (not even 1/2 a INT), Rush 8 times for 24 yards, and he didn't even play the 4th quarter for a lot of games.
And that doesn't even tell half the story about his really big plays being precisely when we needed it, escaping the rush and making a big throw or how lethal he was running the ball at times.

Exactly. Les got a lot of credit for the trick plays but they were mostly out of desperation.

We all sat in concern when we were pinned in our own end zone for the first few series. We all knew once the field opened up it was over though.

After the 2nd trick play Clemson ran, I said to my wife and everyone around us in the stadium, "Dabo is running trick plays because he knows they aren't good enough to beat us."
One guy close by replied, "they looked a lot better than us on those plays". But he didn't understand. People were panicking around us down 17-7 but I felt it was just a matter of time.
And if Lewis wouldn't have been downfield on the first possession the beatdown would have started much sooner.

Told my wife the same thing tbh- that they were going to try and steal a few points like Bama (quick snap over Stingley) and that was their only chance.
* I will admit after going 3 and out on the first three drives I also vividly remembering having flashbacks to 2011 and saying “I’ve seen this show before”. I was sitting it roughly the same seats lolz

Agree! I was never really worried.
Dabo must feel stupid each time he sees himself chest bumping after running a successful trick play early in the second quarter.
After that if was all black clouds for Dabo and Venables.

Lets not forget the game ended with LSU on Clemson’s 5 yd line about to score. Also, LSU spent the entire 1st Qtr backed up against their own goal line. The score could have been way more lopsided than it was.
they had excellent field position but the defense stood em up and Joe and company fought out of that hole they were in.

That beatdown was like a prison cell block rape. Dabo had his arse cheeks spread wide and everyone got in line.

Even Stoic Joe knew we had our foot on Clemson‘s neck and a steady stream of piss going right in their mouth.

Let's be honest with ourselves here. We were all thinking:
"shite we just beat Bama, we might win the whole damn thing?!!"

We hardly dropped anything last year. The only other one I remembered was Marshall’s drop.

Chase wasn't expecting the pass over his left shoulder and had to adjust last second. Technically a drop but it's hard to put that all on him.

Which is why it's ludicrous that some think the 2019 LSU Tigers wouldn't have a chance of beating the 2018 Clemmy Tigers.
Who thinks that? 2019 LSU is universally lauded as the best or one of the best teams ever. Up there with 95 Neb and 01 Miami.

LSU met their match and then utterly destroyed it.
I honestly believe it would have been a completely different game if we didn't have the illegal receiver penalty on the long pass to Moss on our first play from scrimmage.
They kept pinning us deep and we had such terrible field position on our first few drives. It would have been total domination from the start rather than after 1.5 quarters.
