Back to back weeks of low grades for Spears, hopefully just a freshman thing

Safety is a tough position as a true freshmen.

Yet he's still leaps and bounds better than anything else we saw last year

Caden Durham, RB – 89.1
Harsh crowd at PFF, 20+ yards per touch and 2TDs doesn't even get you a 90+ score.

I thought CJ had a decent game. He made some key blocks downfield.

They massively slash a player's grade if they are responsible for a penalty.

Not good that two of our offensive linemen had really bad grades

That makes sense. Thing is it wasn’t even a hold, just a great block.

Off ratings are mostly trash. They get some right and some wrong.
One big issue is they don’t know the actual play calls so they can’t always grade it right. Also feel like they weight some things really bad.

The IOL guys are average at best Frazier is slow and doesnt get any real push upfield. Also rolled up on Durhams legs after the score because he was falling down. ????
The center is ok at best, same doesnt get much push and is learning the role as Dellinger couldnt snap. Hes young and needs to be a leader next year.
They are big size wise but not very physical/ strong and slow of foot.
Campbell took a dumb penalty and seems more concerned on what clown suit hes wearing vs getting ready for the game.
Jones is more athletic but will most like play IOL in the pros. Next years OL will be a total rebuild when Davis has to earn his money. As this years OL has been average at best, because JD5 covered up alot of their gaps from last year.

Probably should have graded Frazier a little lower because of the Eddie Guerrero Frog Splash he put on Caden….

Getting a 90+ is extremely difficult.
Durham only played 20 snaps so the few not great snaps he had really brough his grade down more than it otherwise would have if he had played say 30-40 snaps. He got a 59.1 grade on run blocking, which means they didnt like 2 out of his 3 run blocking snaps....the 1 Nuss scored in the endzone on the draw play he was pretty good on, stonewalled a linebacker just about. I think 1 of the 2 other 2 he was run blocking on the QB sneak, aka toosh push. So probably just gave him a 60 average for that play.

A 55 and 56 is not "really bad". It is slightly below average.
People seem to forget a 60.0 is bog average in PFF's scale. There are people who grade out in the 30s and 40s at times. THAT is bad.
Their scale is basically like this:
90+ = elite of the elite, exceedingly rare
80-89 = Very very good to elite
70-79 = good
60-69 = average to above average
50-59 = mediocre to below average
40-49 = bad
below 40 = pitiful

This sounds like the same old story that Ranters put on the 2019 OL that won a Natty, went undefeated, won Joe Moore trophy, and all went to the league…
