It's an obvious power play by these brides to be.
There are 45+ weekends a year they can get married, but they insist on a football weekend.
These are obvious passive aggressive actions, and it doesn't bode well for these marriages.

I got married on an off weekend but half the wedding party were ole miss fans. Everyone watched up until the service then immediately after.

It's not always a bye weekend for anniversaries though. I had to get married before Shabbat, so it was a Friday before the sun went down in November. Safe for power 4 football.
