Why did those guys go to Wofford? Did they turn down major programs out of high school? This is his perfect game profile…. He obviously wasn’t recruited hard, scouted as average and the big schools went after the big time recruits. Now he gets a second chance at playing at a big time baseball program.

quote:not really they’ll still find older veteran players in the D2 or D3 ranks along with the occasional super star under recruited freshman or sophomore who will eventually be poached by the SEC/ACC. I mean we have seen Oral Roberts & Evansville just make runs during the NIL/Portal Era.
The days of a mid-major team making a good run may be over.

Why do people think this kid would leave UNC? He's already starting and they have a fairly young core so they will be good again next year.
Same reason guys leave competitive small market teams. The big market team offers them a salary the small market team can't match.
UNC is a good program. They obviously beat LSU. But you saw first hand the level of support/interest compared to LSU. If they really wanted to, LSU has the investment to make him (likely) a bigger NIL offer than UNC can.
In a sport where it is very difficult to make the major leagues, it's hard to ever blame a kid for taking about large sum of money available to him now if the likelihood of future riches is relatively low

I wonder if this might be a new model for NCAA. Players with upside get “loaned” to friendly programs for development and playing time.
Developed players transfer to premier sister programs.
You could see the LSUs recruiting projects to/for/on behalf of Wofford. Cam Johnson?

We are lucky CPM didn’t get a chance to try to get these guys since they are from South Carolina

Now we need NC 3rd baseman and 3 outfielders that can run, catch and hit.

By this logic, players that have a good year at LSU in football should leave for Texas. They have deeper pockets so you can't blame the player right?

Do we have enough room under the cap?

When will we eliminate academic requirements? These athletes aren’t jumping around hoping for better educational opportunities.
Let’s call major college sports what it is.

College athletics are so stupid right now
Oh, I'm not so sure. Having your best talent poached by your competitor while attending an industry event is possibly the most normal thing about college athletics.
The expectation of blind loyalty and four years of labor from teenage athletes in exchange for tuition, a room and three squares a day has been a bizarre fantasy for generations. That's the stupid part.

I never said he SHOULD leave. Just answering your question of why he WOULD leave.

I can't blame anyone for making a decision they feel is in their best interest...even if I disagree with the decision, and even if, as a fan of a school, I don't like it because it hurts the team I support.

This is honestly all so stupid. College athletics has now become less “play for school pride” then pros
Pros get paid of course but at least it’s for multiple years
It’s been all a facade for a while that any of the players cared about the school but at least as a fan you could squint really hard and kinda pretend they played for love of lsu
Now it’s just cheering for 1 year mercenaries .

That's literally the definition of college recruiting and the answer to how your favorite LSU players in every sport landed in Baton Rouge to begin with. They had a good year in high school, committed to one school, and changed their mind when a better offer came along. Or they played multiple better offers against each other until they got the best deal they could negotiate.
I don't blame those players. Do you?

But they stay in small market as long as they're contractually obligated to. Think how insane pro sports would be if players only had 1 year contracts
