We should be psyched about how last night went

Not a lot of film study or things to work on with a 70-7 blowout and starters sitting by the third quarter. Every great team has sloppy a game like this, so if that’s the one then much better than later in the schedule.

basically it was a positive step for this football team last night overall. I think the running game is going to demolish Ole Piss this next weekend haha

We just came off of a thrashing of Clemson and playing an in state school, you had to expect we were going to come out a little flat.
You always hear “your defense travels” and our defense looks fricking elite. I’m stoked to have some fricking dudes on that side of the ball.
Offense is cool and all but I love when lsu has a physical dominant defense.

Definitely flat is a part of it, but also key to remember there is no chance we did any kind of in depth game planning for this.
With OM and A&M on the horizon guarantee we were already doing prep and installing things specifically for them. We clearly wanted to work on things in the passing game after a run heavy week 1.
We still moved the ball well and absolutely shut them down on D. We just had some tough miscues with the turnovers that kept the score looking ugly.
This game week and next week are going to be so damn intense, I definitely assume the players got a bit of a bye week lite type of environment after Clemson.

I’d bet a lot this team is focused this week. It’s human nature to relax after a good performance like the one versus Clemson

Oline really struggled until Tech wore down. That’s a little concerning.
Sam missed a lot of throws, especially with deep balls.
Hopefully this is a wake up call. Play anywhere close to that the next 2 weeks and we will be 2-2.

Is Leavitt good enough to beat an elite defense with his passing when the run game isn’t working?

Didn't get to catch the game and was checking score and stat updates on my phone. It appears the defense has given up nothing in 2 games when it matters. That has to be encouraging.

Last week was a gift. This week you saw the lack of experience playing together. The chemistry ain't there yet. It will get there though.

Man, I'm trying to look at it as as if it's simply the inevitable sloppy game of the year. The thing is, as bad as 4 turnovers in the first half was, it's not the sloppiness of turnovers that concerns me near as much as not being able to run the ball against La Tech. That's not a matter of being sloppy, it's just about lining up and winning one on one battles with the man across from you. Our offensive line couldn't do that.
Can we scheme around it? Obviously we're going to have to, because last night proved that we can't just line up and run people over at the line of scrimmage. I thought we had done that last week, but we must have just had them guessing all game, and out of position. Hopefully, with a less vanilla game plan against better teams than we played last night, we'll have teams guessing again.
We used to have sloppy games in the Miles era, where (except against Alabama) we'd still run for 250-300 yards. I'm not advocating to go back to those days, but it would be nice to have that kind of offensive line again.

I'm disappointed that we didn't see better chemistry between Sam and the WRs. I thought that would be something that would improve quickly. There isn't much time left

How about the fact that the WR group cant catch....

Newsflash - OM does not have an elite D, maybe A&M does. Sam should be adequate at OM. Our D will win the next 2 games, not Sam, unless he cleans up a lot and settles down.

Maybe you missed it last night but most of Sam's problems are not defense-induced, hence why La Tech was able to hang around despite not having an "elite D." It's just a lack of chemistry with the WRs, lack of pre-snap plan, and an urgency to improvise before things break down.
I don't expect Sam to struggle anymore next week than he did last night. In fact most of those issues are so correctable that I expect improvement (although I also thought we'd see more improvement from W1 to W2 than we did). Regardless, OM still has a much better offense than we've seen so far. I expect our defense will give them trouble but itll be tough to hold them to under 14. We will need some improvement on offense.

It’s a little of both. We all worry a tad because of a lackluster performance, but like Kiffin even said, he’s got the teams attention now.

I’ve always said week to week results mean very little when you tee it up for the day of. Still think we ar better team just execute we win next week

Passing game needs some work. Leavitt not a good deep passer. Quick to take off and run but can he survive a 12 game season running more than throwing deep?
