We don’t have a Devin White or Jamal Adams field general on this defense

You have to have leaders on defense that keep the younger players lined up and playing correct technique in game.

Greg brooks was that for the secondary, he’s gone.

Harold Perkins was supposed to be that for the linebackers, he can’t mentally do it he has to “see ball get ball”.

It’s not just the raw athletic ability that makes a player or defense elite. It’s that athleticism in conjunction with the football IQ to keep your unit organized and on assignment.

CBK can’t come out and shite on his players to the media. But we don’t have it.

Watching Jamal Adams last night made me think of this. These guys never had a Jamal, Devin White, Chaisson, Tre White etc. alpha type to look up and set the standard for them

I dont think that was ever supposed to be Perkins. I think it was supposed to be Speights. don’t confuse being a good player with bejng tbe guy who gets everyone in place. Brandon Taylor was that guy in 2011 and he was probably the least talented DB in that secondary (still good)

Whit weeks looks the part. Dude is always near the ball and gets off blocks very well

Just like Beckwith his freshman year, we seem to not want to play him for some reason

That’s what happens when you have to pull kids from the portal. No team mindset… just a bunch of individuals running around hoping someone else makes the play

But according to BK he is still learning the position . We start him from the beginning and not until they have 28 and I believe he makes at least one play that stops them from scoring and it's different ball game. He flashes every single game. Same thing with Jordan Jefferson. It's criminal he's not getting more snaps

...and he is still asking for help with pre-snap alignment, etc which as a true freshman is understandable.

100 other teams in college football don’t either and they are not historically bad. It’s not about comparing what this LSU team is to what it once was it’s about how bad they are performing against their current counterparts and how poorly the product has been.

Speaks has been a let down thought he had the game and smarts to be that kinda transfer but don’t see him make any plays of note.
We need to wrap our arms around the fact our best defender with sure as sure of tackling as we have is Weeks.
Time to admit that. Needs to play the whole game from here on out.
He is going to be pretty special and play a lot of years in the NFL.

I hope he's a straight A student because giving a true freshman that additional learning and pressure to deliver the needed leadership/complete scheme understanding of a majority of teammates' assignments on the field along with adjusting to college academic rigors and expectations (for a group of students that had an anchor around their necks in what they accomplished learning due to Covid academic limitations) is really a lot.

We miss Jay Ward. He wasn't the fastest or biggest player but he laid it out all on the field.

Like Brooks. We are truly feeling his absence this year from a leadership and assignment perspective. Never mind his actual ability.

He can’t do that either. He can’t shed blocks for shite.
