If was was BK, I'd expect the full payment owed to me according to the contract that both parties signed.

Probably

Take the 30-35 and be done. He’s already filthy rich, stays out of litigation/mitigation, moves on with his life, retires, etc.

If I was 40 years old? No. LSU would be paying the entire amount.

Absolutely not. If the university has some dirt on you, your wife likely already knows too. She’s going to make sure you get that full amount before she divorces you.

I'd settle for half ($25-30 mil) NOW and end all ties to LSU. AND I would require LSU to buy my house in BR. :-)

The present value of the contract buyout is not half but closer to 50K, assuming a 3 % inflation rate. I think when BK looked at that, he decided "just pay me the contract". But I could see the appeal of a much smaller lump sum to sever ties completely.

Of course I would not take less. Why should he? $800,000.00 a month is a pretty great retirement pay. Think of it as a 5-year pension.

If I did the job Kelly did, I'd own up to my failing and give LSU a discount. My conscience would force me too. I'd still be wealthy as frick and I'd demonstrate my integrity.

assuming that LSU does NOT have any dirt on Kelly-

there are only a few reasons to settle for less:
1. the offset clause- there could be a potential to remove the offset clause and start coaching somewhere else.
2. time value of money... without doing calculations... let's 3 say $3 million in a lump sum now is worth more than 5million in 2030, for example...

Obviously you'd take less to get the money up front, just like nearly everyone does with the lottery/powerball.

At least that frames the negotiations. I always believed that if I won the lottery, I would want the lump sum and invest it.

Mark Cuban once recommended that the winner should take the payments annually.

So, BK and LSU are negotiating a lump sum. Right?

BK is laughing all the way to the bank and then his boyfriend’s house.

I'm not sure BK is laughing. Yes, he will get his money. But this is BK, a pompous SOB, so his pride is hurting powerfully bad. At his age, either he gets another job to rehabilitate his ending career, or quit whining, take his money, and ride off into the sunset.

Glad he’s gone but I don’t blame him for wanting every penny he’s contractually entitled to.

Especially the rumors another Woodward meddling and forcing him to keep Davis on staff are true.

A standup guy would do that.

That’s clearly not what we’re dealing with. Which has me questioning his motives from the outset.

When you are 70

I think we currently owe him 5 million, not 54. We can give him 10 next year at 65, 10 the next year at 66, and so on. Or he can take 30 now

Completely up to him. But him refusing our offer doesn’t mean we are shorting him 20+ million for no reason

lot to factor in.

Consider:

He can't retire or he likely gets less. His offset language requires him to seek employment. LSU would take serious issue with anything that looked like "riding off into the sunset".

If he goes and coaches somewhere else he would be dumb not to take a settlement.

Hes owed 54 million over 6 years.

If he gets a coaching job that pays him 4 million a year...thats 20 million over 24 million over 6 years. LSU owes him the difference. 30 million. Currently places like Syracuse pay 4 million a year.

The math for what Brian Kelly gets if he gets another head coaching gig gets dicey for him pretty easily.

Its easy to see why its beneficial for him and LSU to take a settlement.

His contract is structured to be paid out 800k per month over the next 6 years. If he wants a lump sum now, he has to take less money. It’s the same way the cash option in the lottery works.

Shut up man. No one wants to hear this crap. Bk is a POS and he flat out failed at LSU with no fricks given. Frick him.
