Was also said or thought after both opening losses against Florida State the past two seasons with JD at QB.

Nuss is capable of running. Not like JD but he can get 10-15 yds. Hell if he could get 3 yds we would have gotten one of those first downs we needed. We don't need JD runs. I think we will see more over the next 3 games especially as the backups get more PT.

Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming Nuss, for the L last night. However, he is a one trick pony. If the play calling is bad which it was the majority of the second half or someone misses their assignment, Nussmeier doesn't have the ability to compensate for the lack. JD5, bailed us out so many times with his legs off script it became expected and we took it for granted. He bailed out Denbrock, numerous times. I'm not saying bench Nussmeier, because I don't know if we have a better qb option.. Just be prepared for a long season after September. I was saying 8-4 before the season, I doubt we will reach that now...

How many years/games did it take Daniels to have a passing game like Nuss in his second game as a starter?
Daniels had two opening game losses in his fourth and fifth seasons as a starter..

Captain Oblivious is more like it. Nuss isn't a one trick pony. Nuss can very much compensate for bad playcalls, but also shouldn't have to. And we shouldn't "bench Nuss" regardless of who our backups are. Predicting 8 and 4 as the ceiling and now worse is beyond stupid.

As a 5th year starting QB, 4th year QB, not so much.

Nuss is as fast as Burrow from what I’ve heard. Burrow was a great runner for us. But Burrow’s biggest weapon as a runner was between his ears. The dude knew exactly when and where to run. He was never a risk to bust out a 50 yard run on any given play like JD was, but the fact that he would expose any gap the opposing team had, it made him just as effective as JD in certain situations, particularly 3rd downs, sometimes even more effective — he knew where to go better than any QB I’ve ever seen. They both were serious run threats that defenses had to keep an eye on, albeit in VERY different ways.

Nuss has the speed to do that, it’s just about reading the D and making them pay for leaving a gap.

And there were calls to bench Daniels, too, after both season opener losses.

In the second half, USC was able to scheme Lacy out of the game, and LSU couldn't make them pay for that move.

This is what’s maddening regarding play calling and utilizing your skill players. If Lacey is being double covered on the perimeter then play him in the slot. Run lacey on crosser or slant, send Daniels deep, and TE on a 10 yard curl. Hell, send the RB on a wheel route to the vacated side of the field. It’s not rocket science, sure as shite shouldn’t take a whole half to figure out.

Keep in mind JD did absolutely nothing in the second half, and didn't score until the last minute when the game was long decided...and if I recall correctly, it was a long run following a short pitch and catch.

Malik was one of the best WRs to ever suit up in Death Valley. Dude could catch a 6 yard pass, break 2 tackles, run 30 more yards to make it a 36 yard completion.

For me, I’m glad JD was able to run, but let’s be real, he shouldn’t have had to be our leading rusher nor would any team ever want that for their qb. We recruit running backs for a reason, we are gonna have to find a way to run the ball. USC stacked the box all night cause we never threatened them vertically. We are giving USC’s defensive coordinator a lot of credit, but the truth is, we made his job easy. Good coaches find a way to run the ball whether it be WR and around, or screen plays which are kinda like an extension of the run. Just get it together and play to Nuss’s strengths and we will be fine.
