Very minute observation for only the baseball nerds

But was anyone else impressed with Grant Fontenot’s performance on Saturday? I felt he came in looked confident and could be a huge middle relief guy to bridge the gap for Cowan and Evans during games if he can keep that up.

I'd get him back out there on Tuesday for sure.
Also, Mayers is starting to find it a little bit.
Noot has shown flashes.
Cooper Williams did his job before the Bearror on Saturday.
Rizy has shown flashes.
I'm not saying the bullpen is outstanding, but it's starting to drift toward good enough.
ETA: On a different note, whatever seems like it's the most high leverage, nut cutting time of the game on Tuesday, we need to insert Schmidt.

Mayer's correction feels so ridiculously simple that its frustrating to me.
You have like the highest release of all time. ALL, and I mean ALL, of your misses are FBs down. He's just releasing late. Feels like you can fix that multiple ways.

I agree. The walks and HBP are what kills. We got away with it with other teams, but TN took advantage. You can see the talent, just get it to the plate. Schmidt's command is way off though. I didn't expect that.

I mean it's hard not to be happy with what he did. Faced 5 batters, didn't give up a hit, 11 of hit 16 pitches were for strikes. I don't know exactly how useful he will be from here on out, but I'd definitely like to see more.

I like what we have this year and think things are trending in a positive direction for pitching. I am also excited to see what this staff will look like next season. Evans, Schmidt, Rizzy, and Williams are all Freshmen. Sheerin is a sophomore, Noot and Shores are redshirt sophomores, and I am not sure either will be drafted high enough to want to leave. Kade Anderson is a sophomore, but I do not know if he is draft-eligible. If he is I would expect him to be drafted at a place where he may go.

To me it must be a mental thing with him. it’s nerves or over excitement.

He's draft eligible and Baseball America has him in the top 10 as of this morning.

He is a draft eligible sophomore and likely will be a top 15-20 pick I would think.

I thought so but wasn't sure.

Kind of where I am, though 15-20 may move a little either way, but not much, barring him being unhittable the rest of the way, having a complete collapse, or getting injured.

90% of pitching is mental.
If you don't believe me just Google it.

It's basically the same thing as 2023 and 2024. Everyone melted about the bullpen all year but they got better and better as the season went on.
Bringing in a ton of new pieces and getting them some experience matters.
They'll have some more bumps in the road though and folks will melt.

Several of us noticed. He didn’t seem phased by the spot. I know we were already down, but he came in and faced the meat of their lineup and held up well.
He definitely deserves to get some critical spot relief this weekend to see if he can do the same on the road in the SEC. If he can, then you increase his role from there and see how it goes.
