FSU is realistically a # 15-20 team. Having them top 5 is D1 baseball keeping things interesting to generate chatter.

The discrepancy of Florida State shows how simply clueless and pointless these rankings still are.
That’s why I say ELOs the best ranking system. Straight unbiased formula. FSU falls right in the middle of BA and D1s poll there which is more where they belong

Both sets of rankings are bizarre to me. In some cases they are completely overreacting to the results of one series. In others they seem infatuated with certain teams for no obvious reason. Arkansas hasn’t played well lately, but they are still 14-7 in conference play. It makes no sense for them to be #10/11, while BA has 11-10 Auburn at #5. It seems like they must be using some sort of rating formula that’s similar to RPI, which also has Auburn too high. I don’t get what either poll sees in Clemson. They are now 5th in the ACC standings and in the middle of the pack in conference stats both offensively and defensively. They don’t have any high profile non-conference wins to offset their conference performance. D1 dropped Arkansas and Tennessee several spots after series losses, but Clemson stays at #3 after getting swept? FSU is similar at #4 in the ACC standings and a joke of a non-conference weekend slate.

Nc state moved up a dozen spots It’s just a clear ACC bias
NC St just swept Clemson and is in 1st place in the ACC standings. I think this was a reasonable correction to their being underrated previously. Clemson and FSU are definitely questionable.

Which is fine, but why did Clemson drop 1 spot? They were outscored 26-8 over the weekend and got run ruled.

Like I said, I agree that Clemson and FSU don’t make sense. I discussed that in greater detail in my prior post. Clemson in particular is bizarre to be ranked #3 when they are 5th in ACC with no quality non-conference series wins and middle of the pack stats in conference play.

Do we still suck or no? I'm having trouble keeping up.

LSU baseball being ranked number two shows just how bad this team sucks! Fire Jay!!!

I’m assuming in this weeks D1 tourney projection… not that it really means anything at this point…. But you’d have LSU paired with Vandy for the Super

Clemson dropped their first series yesterday. They should stay near the top. It would be way too reactionary to move them down

I think they would’ve moved down a little further had not almost every else around them lost too.

Well its not like they were playing a murders row before that in Conference. WF and Louisville they got at home which are their toughest series so far, both in the low 20's in rpi. They went to GT who is 34 in rpi. They go to NCST which is by far their toughest test yet and they get swept.
LSU had series @ #1, @ #4, vs #10, vs #14.
Clemson and FSU play this weekend so someone will separate themselves. But Clemson getting swept away from home is basically like when LSU got swept at Auburn.

They were 7-0 in one-run games in conference play before this weekend. The 3-game sweep feels more like an evening out of what was somewhat lucky results up to that point. They are 10th in the conference in runs scored per game and 8th in runs allowed per game. Even with the luck in one-run games, they are now 5th in the conference standings. That doesn’t feel like the #3 team in the country.

Kendall and Co. are just going out of their way this season to try and project no SEC bias. Its fairly obvious to me.

quote:just came across an article about Texas’ ace undergoing shoulder surgery and being out the rest of the year. Don’t want to comment on it and get cursed by the baseball gods but what a huge blow losing their Friday night starter
up until this weekend, they had their ace. Their staff is thin now, and they are going into a snakepit against a team desperate to win a series

Midweek games don’t matter
This really is just stupidity. Every bit as stupid as the morons who overreact to losing a midweek game and act like the season is over. Losing a game that causes your RPI to drop from 6 to 12 is absolutely meaningful. And had we not won the series this weekend it would very much be meaningful. But we were very fortunate Friday and handled business yesterday and made last Tuesday just a bump in the road that should be nothing more than a lesson learned.

You dont get dinged for margin of victory in polls, and you shouldnt

Where did I suggest they should be? I was only countering the argument that they should be ranked higher for having only one series loss despite being 5th in the ACC standings. It wasn’t just one bad weekend. They have been walking a tightrope all season and finally fell off. Their 13-8 conference record is more indicative of their performance than the 6-1 series record.
