la'el draft status is a complete mess and I have no confidence the brpd will do anything in the short term. I don't believe la'el had anything to do with this(not on the heals of the hernandez verdict). worst case, its possible some dumbass did this thinking he was doing la'el a favor and would be able to collect when la'el turns pro. brpd then has to clear la'el which could take forever.

This is correct. If an acquaintance/friend of mine is murdered and (naturally) the police want to talk to me and I've got nothing to do with it, I'd get on the very next plane and talk to the police asap. I'd then get in front of any camera I can and answer any question, especially if I'm trying to salvage my draft status. You wouldn't be able to shut me up, I'd be talking constantly to clear my name.

And I wouldn't bring my lawyer along. When someone lawyers up, well, it's usually for a reason.

im sure several teams are telling him this. because if they can make a GM ahead of them nervous, suddenly he might fall a couple spots to them.

Yea, the reason being that the police want to talk to you

of course

. Didn't Johnny Football get drafted? In the first round no less... He's a guy you KNEW would never play in the NFL.

he also wasn't potentially involved in a murder, and no one KNEW Johnny Manzioel would ever start in the NFL.. shite, he still may start one day, but that's beside the point. If La'el Collins is in any way involved, he may never see a football field again. Owners and GMs are running a business. If you are a business owner, you have to assess risk/reward. Collins is a monumental and unnecessary risk for most owners right now with so much uncertainty surrounding him. You're assuming Collins is completely innocent. owners can't afford to make assumptions like that.

I used to think this til I read Gone Girl.

Sorry, but that's not how it works in today's media driven world. To deny all involvement from the top of your lungs actually makes you look worse in the public eye.

Why would it matter?

Even if innocent, you make sure you have all the evidence of your innocence available when you talk to the police. You have witnesses to back up the events too. It is called risk management

Not to mention that cops and the media hire people to read your body languages at press conferences.

Funny you aren't hearing anything from his agent, who should be out ahead of this. Also doesn't help that his agent is part of Lil' Wayne's outfit. Not exactly a group of associates with a stellar reputation.

Not all of the time. You never speak to the police when they want to interview you without a lawyer present no matter what the situation is.

Not bringing a lawyer to a police interview does not make you innocent, it makes you an idiot. You should bring a lawyer with you especially if you are innocent. The police are not your friend and you are not an expert on the law so bring a lawyer.
