in the middle of a murder investigation, why are police trying to determine parent. shouldn't their resources be spent on murder investigation (assuming baby daddy not automatic suspect). is this normal or should determining parent normally be for child protective services or another gov't agency.

Teams now removing La' el Collins from draft boards according to Yahoo.
Congratulations media. Hope you're happy.

most likely for evidence gathering. the father of the child could be very relevant to determining motive. or it could end up meaning nothing

Unfortunate that his draft stock is taking a hit because of this. Really hope he had nothing to do with this

blaming the media is ignorant. teams were aware of this before it became public. the media also has every right to report relevant news, not just news that is pleasant. and nothing the media has reported has been inaccurate. if that was the case, then yeah, you may have a gripe with them. it's a very unfortunate situation all around, but pointing fingers at the media or adam shefter stupid. the blame is solely on the person who murdered mills.

Yahoo
Agreed, though I'd like to know how his name was initially mentioned as associated with the victim.
The yahoo article pretty much says it....though he's not necessarily implicated in the murder, it will likely affect collins draft position. Whether or not you call him a suspect.

they also are running a business. it would be fiscally irresponsible to take a risk on a player in the middle of a murder investigation. it really sucks for collins if he wasn't involved and the timing sucks, but it's completely understandable from an owner's perspective.

because the mother is dead and a baby with no immediate family is fighting for it's life????

There is no way to tell if it's actually true that they are "removing him from the board". It's also a huge leap to say they have access to more information.
He's got more risk associated with him now so some of the teams might overreact.

The note said that Collins had not contacted Mills since September.

I would assume that the police have the victim's cell phone & have already combed through her text, phone call records & social media profiles. This is most likely where they have found out that La'el hadn't contacted her since September. Any recent contact would make him a prime suspect but it had been months of no contact between the two yet that doesn't rule out Collins from being the child's father.

it's not really an overreaction, just unfortunate timing. teams have no idea the level of collins involvement, and it's not like the BRPD is going to disclose the details of their investigation either. and sadly, i highly doubt they'll have any definitive answers by thursday. they can't afford to waste a high draft pick on a kid that could theoretically never play a down of football in the nfl.

Clickbait reporting is ignorant. So many different posts and articles that try to make the story look like another Aaron Hernandez. Public perception is buzzing the worst, so yes, I will blame the media.

we don't know this for sure either

it also doesn't rule him out as the murderer

The way it was reported is beyond stupid. Yes, it sucks the girl died but the way the police released this information seems wrong. If he has no involvement or is a suspect why did it need to be released to the public like this? The only way I see that happening is if he did indeed be suspected to have some type of involvement...otherwise, their department needs to be bitch slapped for incompetence. It's nobody's business who's being questioned by the police unless they're trying to get something out of it.

NFL owners are not gullible saps that click bait journalists are trying to attract. Also, what has the media reported that is factually incorrect?

Not sure about the streets, but the information i've disseminated is that from "a fly on the wall". Again...take it for what it is

not necessarily
There was a reason Aaron Hernandez was an immediate person of interest in his murder investigation. The victim was last seen with Hernandez & he texted family members stating this as well. C'mon man, don't be that ignorant to say that having recent contact with a victim doesn't draw the attention of law enforcement in murder investigations.

I'm sure that bit of information just fell out of the sky, right?

No, it doesn't but it also makes it more unlikely.

Well, we've had info from "the streets" and from "a fly on the wall".
