You think Wade was pearsonally outbidding Duke, Kentucky, etc.?

No, I don’t think he was, but I do think he was outbidding Alabama, Vandy, A&M, Missouri, and Georgia along with the SEC schools that didn’t make the NCAA tournament this year. I don’t think he’s coming into a situation now where he’ll have the top budget in the conference or even second to Kentucky. He’ll just be on par with the top half of the league. Not worse, but not better.

now you’re crawfishing from the point of that statement

No, you just read into my comments what you wanted to see because you’re spoiling for a fight with anyone who doesn’t agree with you 100%. The SEC is more well-funded as a whole now than it was his first go round. That is evident in the big jump in NCAA tournament berths, Sweet 16s, Final 4s, and NCs.

I think he’s a good coach and he does have the potential to take the next step. There’s just a lot of projecting going on that’s based more on hope than actual accomplishments to-date.
Only the extremists would say NC or bust bullshite. No serious LSU MBB fan has stated such things. The truth is he's had the most consistent success at LSU since Dale. He's proven to be a good coach and likely the best we could get at this time, because we're not paying $6+ mil to hire a juggernaut. That's not LSU's wheelhouse for MBB.

But I don't understand conflating arguments to try and prove he's not really what his accomplishments show. It's not objective at all.

The top coaches in that era were
Cal
Oats
Barnes
Pearl

You think it’s a lot different now? How is Mike White close to the same winning % he had a Florida, a much better program than UGA? Barnes is in the sweet 16 and Wade owned him. I don’t think you follow basketball at all, you tend to just repeat things you’ve read here and don’t seem to understand how sustained success is created in the sport

Then give him the 4 years CoachMc was allowed and see where the chips fall.

If we finish dead last or 2nd to last 3 of 4 years, can him. I'm an LSU MBB fan, everyone here knows - way before Will Wade. That said, Wade brings hope, energy, drive, coaching, recruiting, dedication to MBB.

And btw, if you think he had a upper budget in the SEC for players, you're delusional.

I guess I view it differently. I played sports and wanted to win. I want LSU to win.

Maybe you find having a good offense but fielding the worst defense in history entertaining, but I don't. Give me the 9-6 with big hits.

And Les himself was very entertaining. Just like Wade.

I think most fans just want a competitive team that will bridge the gap between football and baseball. It’s a bonus if we advance deep in the tourney. Since MM took over it’s been unwatchable once conference play started.

I just want to make the tourney and not be a punchline. Wade will do that.

That’s easy to say when we haven’t even been to the tournament in 4 years and have only won 4 NCAAT games since the 2006 FF. We’ve actually only been to the tournament 9 times since Browns last tourney team. Everyone was ecstatic to make a bowl in 1995 when we went to the Independence Bowl. But eventually “just making the tourney” will not be satisfying especially with the salary contingent on NIL commitments

I agree with everything you say here.

I think you are underestimating the degree to which Wade’s strongest proponents overstate the degree of success he has had so far and I definitely think you are underestimating their expectations of what he will achieve going forward. I agree with you that 4 tournament caliber teams in 5 years is a level of consistency LSU has only ever had under Dale Brown. If the expectation is that LSU will be a tournament team under Wade most seasons with an occasional Sweet 16, then that is consistent with his achievements to-date. I just don’t think most Wade supporters see that as the likely expectations or an acceptable level of success. That’s even less than the softball team has done under Torina of late and the general sentiment on this board is that she deserves to be fired. And while I agree that Wade was more consistent than Brady, Brady’s two best seasons were at a higher level than (or at least equal to) Wade’s one great year and that still got him fired.

I am literally that dude and I consider myself an LSU MBB fan. I’ll take it everyday and twice on Sundays.

This is accurate, but that doesn't mean he can't be elite.

The entire fan base was literally ecstatic while he was here. We've watched 4 years of atrocious play under McMahon. What kind of question is this?

That’s not true. There was many a battle over “street ball”. And the appearance of decline from the SEC champion team.

2023-2026
Cal: 2 Sweet 16s

I’m not at all sure how you think it makes your case to point out that the best coaches of that era weren’t as successful then as they have been since Wade was fired. It only underscores my point that SEC schools are funding their programs better now than during Wade’s first tour. Yes, Pearl is now gone, but replaced by Golden at Florida. Texas has been added to the conference and is in the Sweet 16. Georgia, Missouri, Ole Miss, and A&M are all stronger programs than they were back then.

We have not seen Wade at a Power 5 school after multiple years with full blown NIL and transfer portal like it is now What?!?! He just took NC state to the tourney. He also did it with McNeese AND they beat Clemson in a huge upset in the first round. How can you idiots keep making these statements when you have no clue of the history or the data

Good lord you have the reading comprehension of an 8 yr old.

He was not at NC state multiple years
Mcneese st is not a power 5 school.

And I was giving Wade a complement saying he is going to be better with a huge NIL at LSU over the next few years.
