The SEC has led the nation in money spent and recruiting for over a decade. The SEC didn’t have a 30 game winner until last season since 2019. What you’re doing is selective choosing while ignoring anything that refutes your talking points which are absolute btw. You ignore all context such as last season being utterly horrible outside of the SEC or that tourney selections don’t determine strength of the top teams (see the big- ten 2019). You don’t know enough to make the claims you’re making and there’s nothing wrong with that but not admitting it is your problem and it’s why people who know better keep taking your arguments apart. You’ve also gone this entire thread refusing to define and dodging the question of what you think is elite which allows you to keep the target moving.

There's not one statistic anywhere that doesn't point to this being a coaching upgrade no matter how you feel about Will Wade.

These 2 are related Trent Johnson won the SEC his first year and we were an 8 seed, only 3 SEC teams made the tournament. Sometime after that most is not all SEC teams began committing more resources to MBB. Hiring better coaches is the first and most important part but more commitment is definitely a big part.

1990s
- 3 national titles
- 5 straight title game appearances
- 9 final 4 appearances
- 6 straight final 4s with 4 different programs

How did that happen?

Well Arkansas joined the conference in 1992 and they were loaded under Nolan Richardson for a while. Pitino had Kentucky rolling peaking with an all time great team in 96 he went back to the NBA a year later but left a team so loaded Tubby Smith won a title. This was before the transfer portal btw.

Not sure what massive point you think you are making, no one ever said at no point in history was the SEC goos in MBB but it did fall off for a bit, Sankey hired Mike Tragresse (former Big East commissioner) to consult about improving MBB ffs his basic advise was put more resources into *please note that was not about spending on players, but on the overall programs. The biggest piece of that is of course coaches but also into facilities and the overall program. The player budgets is new and a separate issue. I would argue LSU hiring Wade the first time was part of part of the overall conference putting more emphasis and resources into MBB and it’s clearly been better since then.

Already selectively adding new qualifiers. Ok, we’ll go from 06 to 2014 because 2015 is when the league decided to dump a ton of money into the SEC and when we surpassed other conferences in recruiting by orders of magnitude.

- 3 national titles
- 4 championship games
- 7 final fours (3 different programs)

King, from 1990-2020, how many times do you think the SEC had the most teams of any conference in the NCAA tournament?

What about from 2021-this year?

Let's see if you deflect or continue to be a dishonest liar

Same. Just build a competitive program and make some runs!

Who cares if he’s not asleep we just need to get to the tournament every year. This way everyone actually wants to watch the product that we have on the court instead of just turn the channel.

I love Coach Brady but making one final four doesn’t make you elite.

Almost certainly that question was in jest. He’s trying to get an answer to what the OP considers elite. In all of these type threads there hasn’t been any detractor who’s willing to define what elite means to them. They do this so they can always move the target and freely get away with double standards.

Yes, I agree it was in jest. When I think of elite basketball coaches, ones like Dean Smith, Coach K, John Wooden, Bill Self, Bob Knight, Roy Williams, etc. who have won multiple NCAAT championships.

I agree with those guys being elite 100% but are we comparing him to retired guys or the elite guys he’ll be competing against to determine his legacy?

Only three schools had higher winning percentages during his last tenure here in SEC play - Kentucky ( Calipari), Tennessee (Barnes), and Auburn (Pearl). That's good company, and I'll be happy to be back in that kind of crowd.

This right here explains where you went off the rails in this discussion. I never once used the word elite, you never mentioned anything about defining elite, and you never asked me what it takes to be elite. I get the OP made that point, but I wasn’t responding to the OP and my comments weren’t about being elite. I didn’t refuse to define elite. It was never brought up. My comments about conference strength were in regards to whether it will be easier or more difficult for Wade to be successful this time around. It was never a commentary or a criticism on Wade. It was never a prediction.

If you want me to define elite, fine. I wouldn’t consider a coach elite until he makes it to the Final 4, certainly until he gets past the Sweet 16. Many see potential in Wade to take that next step. As an LSU fan I am 100% rooting for him to do so.
