re: Uga, Smokey, Bevo - just some of the live mascots still on field. WHY NOT MIKE?!?

I for one wish Mike would be back on the field while acknowledging two things:
1. There's a huge gulf between a wild animal such as Mike and other animals that have been termed domesticated.
2. I like the idea that if he doesn't want to, then don't make him. Including baiting. If he wants to get in the Mikemobile, then let's do this. If not- he's got that nice arse spread and I don't blame him.
* note that groups such as PETA do not factor into this at all in my reality and they shouldn't.

If you want LSU to keep Mike and be able to procure future Mikes, you would not support him ever getting in that trailer and appearing in TS again.

For what it's worth, if you are looking for more discussion on this issue than this thread produces, do a quick search. It's a topic that comes up fairly regularly (there was a thread less than a month ago I think). Lots of reading for the interested.

There is quite literally nothing you can do that will ever make the opponents of live mascots stop trying to prevent it. The decision should be made (and was made) based on what Mike's keeper thinks is appropriate. The only way to placate PETA and their ilk is to end the program.

Google , “what is a domesticated animal?” And report back.

How is that? I’ll hang up and listen.

He will never go back in the trailer.
Only solution to get him back would be an enclosed bridge from his enclosure to the stadium where he could come and go as he pleases. He would have his own spot in the stands.
However, the last Mike hated the fireworks when the team ran out.

Two house pets and drugged up livestock. Not really an apples to apples comparison to an apex predator. Look, I loved seeing mike paraded through the stadium as much as anyone, but having thought about it getting older, its not hard to realize how much of a sensory overload that is for a tiger who's existence is based on stealth and silence. I bet it is hard for the vet school/caretakers to say they are doing everything in the best interests of the cat but 6-7 times a year we toss him in a cage and through the middle of 100,000 screaming fans and football players running around.
It sucks but at this point I get it.

His comment had nothing to do with placating PETA. It’s simply the reality that no zoo or reputable Bengal tiger breeder will provide LSU with future Mikes if he is brought into the stadium in that manner.

I think we became a tiger sanctuary or something along those lines we got this Mike. It helped keep PETA off their backs. When that happened a stipulation was that he couldn’t go out for pregame anymore

Does any other university even have a live wild animal on campus?
Yes, Baylor has a live Bear habitat on campus. We had two bears for several years, one recently died of old age. Getting two cubs early next fall. They get treated the same way Mike is treated. Nice habitat, daily care by trainers, and Regular checkups by vets from A & M down the road.
Bill and Eva Williams Bear Habitat
In the past when the two bears were young they walked them on leashes during the homecoming parade and took them to the games. Not anymore. I have a picture from an old Sugar Bowl with the Bear taking a swipe at Smokey from UT.

The same crappy posters come in here and act like they know everything when they don’t know anything.
1) There literally is nothing preventing Mike from returning to the field other than his far left keeper who is soon to retire. I’m glad this douche is retiring.
2) PETA has no authority over what LSU does in any respect to Mike. Any poster that says otherwise is completely ignorant to reality.
3) Mike has one of the best habitats for a tiger outside of tigers that exist in the wild. This is not in dispute. Mike gets better treatment than 99% of the tigers that currently exist on this planet and have ever existed on this planet. To say otherwise should be an indication that a person has an agenda.
4) LSU would have very little issue finding the next Mike regardless of whether Mike is brought into the stadium. This is a fear tactic used by the far left to scare people to their side. Entities from all over the country reached out to LSU when we replaced the last tiger. There is no significance to be labeled a sanctuary when your habitat already is a sanctuary. Further, the organization that makes that determination is contrived and only created to control people and actions. They have no regard for the actual care of tigers.
Now that I have informed you with the facts, please remind these far left crazy people that they lack any real control over the treatment of Mike and they will never have control over the treatment of Mike.

The fact that this question is still asked and argued shows the complete ignorance level of some of our fans.

Ummm, that longhorn tried to gore a dog on the field. Mike never tried to eat UGA that I can recall.
Hahaha, that's only because he never got the chance to try. And I'm glad he didn't because he would have immediately died from high cholesterol after devouring that inbred, drooling overweight snack.

All you idiots comparing a Bengal Tiger to 2 mutts and livestock are unreal. Do YOU not see the difference between HOW Mike is/was brought into the stadium vs the others!?! Yes - he is a wild animal. . .hence, no one is asking for him to be paraded around on field on a freaking leash. He has a cage. A very nice one at that. Why not use that?!?

Great ad hominem. Please feel free to provide at least one sentence of logic to this apparently unthoughtful discussion. Otherwise, keep eating strawberries and looking at your sister.
