UCLA- Not impressed with them at all

Their pitching was good, not great. Nothing seemed overpowering.
how many infield hits did they get against us and Arkansas? I didn't watch the Murray state game but I'm sure they picked up a few there.
I truly believe they would be middle of the pack SEC team maybe even a below .500 in SEC play type of team.
Take away what they did in the 9th inning vs Arkansas and the 1st inning vs LSU (2-3 Infield singles that led to 3 runs). They really got blown out by the only two SEC teams they played this year.

Lsu vs arky could have definitely been the scenario in the big dance had we been in opposite brackets. They knew that

yup
they did not want another SEC on SEC title series like 2017 and 2023 with us

The lack of power in their lineup was surprising given their stats.

They were crap. Was a rare Omaha breather for LSU compared to having to play 55-4 Oregon State in 2017 and #1 seed beast Wake Forest in 2023 in the 1-0 games.

I mean I’m sure that wasn’t the preference but like 11 SEC teams lost in the regionals / super regionals, there were 6 of those teams that would’ve been on the other side of the bracket including 2 national seeds (and the number 1 overall seed).

Who are they? The seeds are set before the tournament even starts. Had other SEC teams not lost, there would have been SEC teams on the other side of the bracket, which could have led to an SEC on SEC final.

And 2021, and 2024. And this narrative is 100% false. When the bracket came out 2.5 weeks ago it was mathematically possible for there to be an all SEC Omaha and about equal number of high seeds on each side of the bracket.

Has to be real depressing for Texas. UTSA sweeps you on your home field then that UCLA team sweeps UTSA. Yikes.

Their SS is very impressive. Cholowski is a stud. The rest of the team I would agree left a lot to be desired but they made it and won a game in Omaha. We have had bad performances in Omaha before as well, things just didn't go their way. But I was very impressed with their defensive efforts especially from Cholowski.

Cholowski was excellent in the field but I have to believe his hitting stats are inflated due to lesser competition

He had a terrible CWS offensively his defense was top notch.

but dat SS doh

Cholowski will without a doubt wind up playing pro baseball; his name with 'ski' ending assures that! McDonald and the other announcers were doing all they could by blowing his name up every other breath!

They shut out the team that swept Texas.

Thier program simply doesn't have the resources SEC programs receive (not that UCLA doesn't have wealthy supporters. They just don't really care much about college baseball). That means they are generally left getting the "second tier" players. i.e players that either aren't drafted high out of HS or who don't go to more resource rich college programs.
Luckly, the school is located in the most populous county in America, in a state that has a LOT of good baseball players. That alone allows them to be a good program within a weak conference where only 3-4 schools (UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington) have decent enough weather year-round to have good baseball programs. But they don't really match up with the SEC programs who have both good players from the southeast AND many of California's best players.

They could have easily had multiple SEC teams in the finals again, but most of our SEC brothers did not measure up.
As it is now half of the final four are from the SEC.
