Burns collected $1.16M for supposedly chocking.

Even Sam admitted he would have been second if he had a decent day.

I do wonder if he wouldn’t have sucked it up so early if Sheffller would have shot as well. Basically after the 3rd hole Sheffler had zero pressure on him.

That is his overall scoring average on Sunday

His Sunday scoring average when he is in the top 10 is near 71 this season….

This has been one of Sam's best years. This game is soooo fn hard. To keep putting himself in position is a hell of an accomplishment. Feel he will break through soon.

He’s 7 years older than Burns, has 1 more win on tour, and multiple top 3 finishes in majors without a win - just like Sam.

Don’t really follow golf but from the pgatour site the most interesting stat I see is that he ranks 1st this season on the entire tour in early round scoring average and 50th in late round scoring average.

He crushes it in early morning tee times but he struggles with later tee times which is the case when he enters Sunday on top of the pack

His Sunday scoring average is actually the lowest.
but that's not really the relevant stat because it includes many tournaments where he's not near the lead on Sunday.

The relevant stat is how Burns does on Sunday when he's in the last group or two. He's clearly struggled when he's near the top on Sunday.

Why can’t everyone just be happy that he gives us someone to root for
we are happy for that

He’s a great ambassador for LSU and a Top-5 finish machine
yes he is.

But he's consistently struggled to win on Sunday when he's in contention. You can love Sam and still admit he's got a problem with closing the deal that he needs to overcome.

I know it is. I simply answered someone else’s question about his final round scoring.

Sports are crazy, you have to find that incredible level of focus..... but at the same time be so loose that you almost don't care. As an overweight 43 year old male watching on tv, who absolutely sucks at golf, he needs to just go out there and have fun on Sunday's.

let me fix that for you...

Typical dump on Sam post.

No, he did not win versus World #1 yesterday. He did rise 4 spots in OWGR to #7. Sam played about the same as most yesterday not named Scheffler.

Best round in top 50% was -3 other than Scheffler. Scottie shot -4 with a fluke shot off the sprinler head that put his ball in the water. If Sam had shot -5 he still would have lost.

He made $1.2 mil in a weekend. He will be fine.

Is this where all the people on the board who've never seen an amount of money with more than one comma tell you that it's not really that much money after taxes and agents and managers and caddies and fluffers and whatever other bullshite they come up with?

Sam clearly has struggles on Sunday's when in contention. The entirety of his Sunday scoring average doesn't tell the whole story because he's not always in contention. Datgolf has a cool "pressure tool" where you can get each player's scoring stats for 3rd and 4th rounds and base it off where they start those rounds.

The last 3 years (2024-2026) he has a scoring average of 72.1 when starting the final round in the top 5. This is 2.05 strokes worse than his "expected" average of 70.05 based on their model.

His expected wins based on his model rating is 1.61. His expected wins based on how he played is 0.04

These stats also don't include yesterday which will only make it worse.

Ultimately though, if you keep giving yourself the opportunities like he has, he'll break through. Especially in majors. He's been playing them so well as of late. He'll figure it out, too good not to.

look, we all acknowledge Burns is one of the best golfers in the world. No question about that.

But it's just a fact that he hasn't closed the deal on many occasions on Sunday when he's in contention.

At the St. Jude, on Sunday, of the top 30 finishers, he had the 2nd worst Sunday score. Of all 68 players, only 5 had a worse Sunday score.

Now, no one was going to beat Scheffler, but Sam had another bad Sunday.

I love Burns, but he's not getting it done on Sundays, and everyone knows it. You can still love the guy but admit he's got a problem closing.

I would love to have his problem and his $40mil plus in winnings by his 30th birthday.

If Sam closed a quarter of the tournies he has been in final round contention into wins he would be #1 in the world or dam close to it.
