Ding ding ding.
The quality of the band as a whole has dropped immensely since Moorhouse left.
Frankly, he is in his position by default. Look around the SEC, and the nation and look at how many of the best bands in the nation are run by people without their PhDs.
Roy is good at fundraising and PR, but he is a poor band director, and worse drill charter.

They're seriously Dean Queen and Director King?

I shall reserve judgement until other JUMAS Bros. chime in.

This. I was in the band in the 70s and in addition to the School of Music, we were subject to the whims of the athletic department, who we had to deal with in order to get funding for road trips, uniforms, etc.

I refuse to believe LSU would hire someone who hates golden band from Tigerland.
LSU would get rid of Tiger Band entirely if they thought they could get away with it.
I imagine that it may not last much longer anyway. The only people not hostile to Tiger Band are the band members themselves and about half the fans.
If LSU got rid of TGBFTL, there would be bitching and moaning for one season, then people would get on with their lives.

You have NO CLUE. The TAF commits a tremendous amount of funding for Tiger Band. Huey Long said to google him and research his populist movement to make Tiger Band the best in the country starting in 1935.
Oh, and my grandpa was there in 1936 playing trumpet, the first year Fight for LSU was ever played after being authored jointly by former Roosevelt hotel bandleader Castro Carazzo and the Kingfish himself. My grandpa joined me at the alumni game in 2002, we both played trumpet together that day, which was my 4th year in TB that year.

I like Roy a lot. He's a good showman and recruiter but it seems like directing the massive Tiger Band is too big for him. There's no doubt the halftime shows have been on a decline. The quality of the marching, too. Partly because there are no more Tiger Band members who had Linda Moorhouse as a director. Disrespecting Linda Moorhouse and making her walk is the biggest travesty in LSU's academic history.

Good. He's not a bad guy but I don't believe he's taken the program to where it needs to be.

Actually, I do. I was in Tiger Band for three years. So was my dad. I've had friends and friends' children in the band for 25 years. I always felt that the band was merely tolerated by the higher ups. Sure, it's something everyone wants, but no one really wants to take responsibility for it or fund it properly. Not to mention, with all of the cuts in the last 7 years, the band is looking more and more like a luxury to some folks.
When I i was in band, it was part of the athletic department. I'm not sure under whose umbrella it falls now. But the athletic department saw us and treated us like athletes have treated band geeks for time immemorial. The snobs in the School of Music see the band as a bunch of Philistines, "weekend warriors", and ne'er-do-wells ( because most Tiger Band members are not music majors).
Sure I may have been a little dramatic by stating that Tiger Band may go away, but my point is that the people who are ultimately in charge see it as a nuisance. The athletic department does not want the band to have any more than a secondary or tertiary role in its public image. The School of Music doesn't want a bunch of English, History, and Math majors being the face of its program either.

There would be a revolt amongst fans if they got rid of the band. I can't believe the admins would even consider the thought.

If I've said it once I've said it 100 times. Keep the band for pregame and for during the game in the stands, but the halftime shows could be eliminated without anyone even noticing. We've seen Maleguena enough times anyway.

Half-Time Shows are an embarrassment, compared to what TGBFTL put on the field under Swor, Rouse, Wickes and Moorhouse!
Why do you think so many LSU fans create a mass exodus at half-time. There's nothing interesting enough to keep you in your seat.
It's even noticeable to LSU football fans that normally don't pay any attention or care about Tiger Band!

Roy is a very passionate Band Director who loves his job, but he is far from professional. I have seen the band decline in performance level and precision during his tenure, but few can match the sheer ferocity and discipline of Linda Morehouse.
I hope they don't get rid of Roy because they will never find anyone who loves and appreciates Tiger Band like he does. With that being said, if they can lure Linda back from Illinois...
