If he can’t play outside cb then he def can’t play nickel where he’ll be lined up vs more shiftier players in the slot

Sage was solid at CB last year. Players improve.

This

He’s a safety. He doesn’t have the hips to play CB. He has plenty of speed.

There is a reason we played cover 3 and 4 all year last year.

I'm no fan of his play on the whole, but a 5th year safety/ multi-year starter who just led the team in tackles

Tackles is a mixed bag IMO. If you are tackling on running plays that is one thing. If you are tackling because the guy you are covering catches pass after pass on you (IMO his situation) then tackling is not exactly a great deal. You know what is a great deal? Don't let your guy catch the ball to begin with!

He is a safety. I believe he will be GREAT at it too with the experience he learned at corner.

Sage Ryan was a major liability in tackling. I didn't see the improvement that some have claimed. On Zy Alexander I would have liked to have seen the splits from first few games to last few games before Army injury. Saw a lot of improvement in him. Burns can't catch a cold from his man and as I said in another post that is why he makes so many tackles...he has the opportunity to make a lot due to his bad coverage skills. Major Burns reminds me of a slightly better Todd Harris...I don't think I have to spell out what I thought of Todd Harris.

He was the best cb on the worse defense, not just in the conference, but damn near of all college football. That's not saying much of anything dude

He’s a safety that has versatility as a nickel/dime type guy but playing him at outside corner is playing him out of position and not getting the best out of him.

This is accurate in my opinion l. He should turn out to be a very good, very versatile player. He just isn’t an outside corner.

So yall want the best corner to hit the portal?

He had a 70 or 72 pff grade. He wasn't a bum

It would be more of a nickel safety role. Against running backs out the backfield or tight ends. He would go against some wrs.

Weren't you on the recruiting board talking burns up? Maybe it was someone else.

I thought you said something about you don't know why he gets hated on and could improve under a new defensive coordinator.

Those grades are bad all across the board

Sage was highest graded in coverage on the team and wasn’t even top 10 in coverage grade conference wide

Probably S is his best position but I think he's talented enough to play anywhere in the defensive backfield.

Absolutely not me. I have never considered Burns an SEC caliber starter. To restate my opinions on two players... I was hoping Sage Ryan would remain in the portal. And I hoped Burns would enter the portal or go into the draft, but of course I think most of us know he wouldn't be drafted so that really wasn't an option for him.

I thought some posters were saying he didn't count towards the 85 because he's a walk on with privileges, so why does it matter if we took him?

Someone linked to a bill that said that children of state employees got a huge discount on their college costs. That was done to encourage retention of employees. Since Verge Ausberry works in the LSU athletic department, obviously his son would qualify for that. Bottom line is I believe he is not on an athletic scholarship as you said.
