Over the next couple of weeks, we will take a look at our esteemed members of the LSU Board of Supervisors. BOS members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Louisiana Senate. They serve six-year terms and give out 15 scholarships annually. There are sixteen members. I'll let you debate their qualifications in supervising a Research I, flagship university system. Phase I will deal with introductions and bio's. In Phase II, we will take a look at political donations.
Ms. Mary L. Werner, Chair-elect
P.O. Box 1018
Lake Charles, Louisiana 70602
mwerner@lsu.edu
Appointed in 2018 by Governor John Bel Edwards.
Ms. Werner represents the 3rd Congressional District; her term of service ends June 1, 2024. She is director and vice president of The North American Land Company, LLC and The Sweet Lake Land & Oil Company, LLC.
Day 1: James M. Williams, Chairman.

She is Laura and Buddy Leach's daughter. Laura is a long time BOS member and major supporter of LSU sports.

Is that an eye of the tiger pin? Maybe a good sign.

She may be a great person and a great supporter of LSU. However, outside of major political connections, would she have likely been appointed to the BoS based upon her individual qualifications? Doubtful. Another patronage pick.

IN the history of all public universities, appointments made to governing bodies by elected officials are ALWAYS political.
