re: To be fair, could this team be 5-0 in conference play if DJ Thomas is healthy?

I say we would have won the SC, Vandy, and Kentucky games and be 4-1.
I mean the game you most look at and go we win with Thomas was the A&M game. Tend to agree on SC and Kentucky, but no question in my mind we beat A&M if Thomas plays.

Negatives dont wanna hear that.

The funny thing is if Wade was coaching they would absolutely say it’s because DJ and Reed are out. They are the biggest hypocrites in the world and you know it. Even the announcers during the Vandy game said it. Take Tanner off Vandy and you have LSU.

With Wade we had tremont waters out and beat a top 5 tenn team and tamu.
McMahon is a great guy. At the same time he has to be objectively judged on results.
If he gets Thomas back and wins and makes the tournament great.
As it if objectively this has been the worst 4 consecutive years in a major sports LSU

Yes and LSU was ranked #15 and had a much better team. And McMahon is also without his best bench player and FW in Reed. Thats a lot of points, rebounds and assists to not have for a long period of time. No doubt they still should have beat Sc and KY but you would still be using the excuse had Wade lost and you know it.

And rightfully so I might add.

In year 2.
That’s the point.
Wade had assembled a team in two offseasons that could beat a top 5 team.
Not just come close to the middle of the pack sec teams

Coulda woulda shoulda. Didn't. Stop playing the what if game.
Big win tonight vs a Mizzou team who was predicted to struggle this season but already had wins over Florida, Kentucky, and Auburn.

In all fairness, Kentucky’s starting PG was out as was two really good bigs.

And they played like it. Tampa hits his FR and we may be having a different discussion. And Kentucky spent $20 mil on that team. Just because they are badly coached doesn’t mean they aren’t talented.

All they had to do is dribble across the half court line, they would get fouled. Missou was not double teaming and then we would have been in the bonus a possession earlier

MM has had a mountain to climb with a rock on his shoulders since he got here. Then he loses his 2 best returner last year ( Ward, Reed) and then it happens AGAIN this year.
He finally gets some support/NIL $$ and has them 12-1 pre-conference but many of you (clowns) wanna run him out of town and claim he's the worst coach in history. You are not Tiger fans!
That man, and his assistants, were coaching their ASSES off on the sidelines, jumping around, shouting, pointing, pouring their hearts out for your LSU.
MM loves LSU and is a damn good coach. I hope Thomas heals up fast and they go on a run that gets them in the tourney. He is due for some good things to happen to him and team (who love him, btw).
And he's not shaped like a pear (who got upset at home today).

This is a lot of hyperbole. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle between the worst LSU basketball coach of all time and a damn good coach. A damn good coach finds a way to win that Kentucky game.

Yeah only watched the last five minutes but you can tell he’s a bad coach. We have solid players but LSU won’t accomplish much with this guy at the helm
He’s a mid-major coach. He was fine at that level, but he’s just not close to the level of the current SEC. He’s needs to go find his next Murray St and just stay there.

Really should be 3-2, maybe even 4-1 without him.
Had they not choked vs UK and shown up vs South Carolina we would be in a good spot.

If lsu isnt in the tourney mcmahon will be fired. And if that happens because dedan was hurt for this stretch, then he will be fired for what happened in years 1-3, not necessarily what happened this year

Atleast 3-2
I'd say the above....but it's all speculation and conjecture. We'll never really know.
I will say without a doubt his absence is much more of a legitimate one than any argued in the past. He makes the team so much better offensively. He came in plug and play ready to go at this level. I'd love to get him back and see what we can do.
Just glad to see us play to the level possible with the pieces we have - we did that yesterday and I liked how we played in that game.

UK is a very good team. Their game at Tennessee yesterday followed the @ LSU script closely. I expect either UF or UK to win the SEC, or both-- maybe Florida wins regular season, and Kentucky wins the SEC tourney. Fortunately LSU only has to meet both of them just once, barring a run in the SEC.
Posted on 1/18/26 at 11:24 am to L5ut1g3r
At worst 3-2. But I think 4-1 would've been possible. A&M and UK would've been victories.

quote:I agree and said this yesterday. Losing DJ is a legitimate excuse, but there is zero credit built up due to the last 3 seasons. Especially with the myriad of other excuses and no actual accountability. If this was year 2 and lose DJ to start conference play, most everyone would be understanding. However, when you enter this season with 40 SEC losses in 54 attempts, there isn’t much rope.
I will say without a doubt his absence is much more of a legitimate one than any argued in the past.
