TigerStadiumAttendance

Tiger Stadium was barely half full for each of the first two home games…but announced attendance was over 92,000. Who’s counting?
Posted on 9/20/21 at 6:46 pm to MinersTigers
They count ticket sales not actual attendance. They have no way to count actual attendance unless they install turnstiles

I guarantee you LSU has a reliable and valid internal estimate of actual attendance. They just don't want that number known.

So… people bought tickets. But didn’t go to the games?
Posted on 9/20/21 at 7:11 pm to MinersTigers
Um, they sell roughly 70,000 season tickets each year. So yes.

They scan every ticket that is used to gain entry. They can easily determine actual attendance.

Personally I think they should do away with out-of-state cupcake games
If we’re going to play a cupcake, it needs to be an in-state FBS school. It’s just impossible to get excited about cupcake games. And this season was made worse by us losing the season-opener ahead of 2 cupcake games.
I’d prefer an all-P5 schedule, but I understand that’s probably not realistic. So be very selective about the cream puffs… Tulane/ULL/LaTech at least provide some fan intrigue. Playing Central Michigan or SanJoseSt or EasternKentucky is really just a waste of everyone’s time.
If I was in charge of building LSU’s schedule, the 4 non-conference games would be:
-1 marquee/name P5 team
-1-2 historically average/bad P5 teams
-1-2 FBS Louisiana schools

All the times they announce 102k or whatever isn’t true either.

How is this any different than the 2021 Schedule?

McNeese and Central Michigan fit into none of those categories (McNeese is an FCS school, Central Michigan is not a P5 school)
UCLA and UL-Monroe are fine and perfect OOC opponents
*my main issue with the 2021 schedule is Central Michigan…while I don’t think they should be scheduling FCS schools, at least McNeese being a Louisiana school is understandable

I should’ve read with better detail . . I saw avg/bad and LA Schools; completely whiffed on the P5/FBS details.
Although I don’t think there’s much difference between Central Michigan and a bad Power 5 school. Historically I think McNeese would be as much of a challenge as any of the other instate FBS teams.

For example, if you sub Tulane for McNeese, and say Arizona or GeorgiaTech (or similar) for Central Michigan, at least it adds a tad more intrigue to the OOC schedule
Obviously losing to UCLA ahead of the 2 stacked cupcakes this particular year made fan interest wane even more than usual for the cupcakes, but still smart scheduling could have kept the fans interest/attendance up a tad over the last 2 weeks even with the season opening loss
Central Michigan accomplished nothing but fill a spot on the schedule. It certainly doesn’t help attendance, doesn’t help recruiting, doesn’t help exposure. It’s just a game that no one cares about

quote:That would be cool, except there is no economic value for them in playing us. Even in a home-and-home, they would lose money.
1-2 historically average/bad P5 teams
They are trying to get to .500 for bowl eligibility, which is much more financially lucrative than a pay-for-play with us. Beating up on a non-conference G5 opponent with no reciprocity is far more useful to a lower tier P5 than losing to LSU is.

quote:Why would Arizona or Georgia Tech do that? How much would it cost for LSU? Would we have to go there in an odd year?

Your whole argument ignores the fact that other college athletic departments have their own interests at stake that don't necessarily coincide with ours.

Because that would be fascinating. But it also sounds like unverified bullshite.
