Could’ve , should’ve , would’ve…. Turnovers killed us. I guess you have to take the good with the bad with Cook. He really puts no effort in defense.
And where was Ward last night?

We really did, Georgia played fairly poorly and the game was there for the taking but we played fairly poorly to.

And we actually matched them in overall rebounding, but the one that counted we got muscled.

We had alot of turnovers, they had alot of turnovers.

I guess, he is our one guy that can get his own but he seems to know that and forces it too much....4 turnovers last night and yea, the defense is frustrating.

Baker had 5 turnovers in 20 minutes last night. Man I want the kid to succeed and obviously CMM does too as he keeps giving him the majority of the minutes and hell, even keeps running sets for him on offense. But it's not working now and hasn't for a while.

I think we would get more from Dean. I think when the ball hits Baker’s hands, it’s going up

Georgia played quite poorly and we simply didn't take advantage.

Turnovers cost them the AU game too…and lots of missed opportunities in the A&M game. If they can clean some of that up, they are going to be a pain in the butt for most teams to beat.

Auburn is just a much more talented team and their arena is incredibly difficult to win in. Last night different story, we could’ve had that one. Good effort and I think solid coaching, poor execution and sloppy with turnovers. Lots of good film for the boys.

The turnovers and bad decisions have hurt this team. Both Williams and Cook tried to go 1 on 2 on fast breaks and got shots blocked. Should have probably pulled those out and worked for better shot. And it’s the unforced TO that really get me, Had 4-5 of those. That’s the difference in a game like that. I still think GA center hit Dean in the head going for that last rebound. Dean tried to block him out but he is big and strong. Ward plays I think they win.

The good is that this team plays hard and doesn’t quit. They’re solid on D and seem to be a good group of kids with no ego or attitude issues. The bad is like you say, we don’t do the little things well that are the difference in close games which are most games in conf play and we’re not a good situational basketball team.

We were never going to be a great team this year, but we are four close losses away from being 15-4. Two of those losses have just happened. Two others came earlier to Dayton and Nichols. We did win an overtime game, but generally all close games have been losses. This team scraps, but often clutches defeat from the jaws of victory.

I remember the lazy one-handed pass from Cook that went into the first row and cost us a possession. He's good for 2-3 of those each game because he too often displays bad fundamentals. Each possession represents an opportunity to score, and each turnover negates the opportunity to score. We lost by two.

Fundamentals. Fundamentals. Fundamentals. It's never too late to stress them. It works.

The personnel decisions don’t make sense. I assume there was a good reason that Ward didn’t play but he probably puts us over the top last night.

Then there’s Baker. Dean is a better defender and doesn’t seem to make the costly mistakes that Baker does. Why Baker gets all the minutes he does makes no sense. Also we need a true point guard. Cook turns it over too much but he is a scorer. Hannibal is a nice spark but is a turnover machine too. Cook is a shooting guard imo but he has to be on the floor for his scoring.

Yep but last night was one we should have been able to steal on the road no doubt.

The strange thing is that he looked aggressive and really good against Auburn. He had 13 points and 10 rebounds and was giving them issues. If he could only play with that much intensity all of the time, he'd be a very solid player.

Baker is too quick to play with his back to the goal. There were a few times when he turned to face the goal and had a 10 footer he could take which he is capable of making but instead tried to back his way into the goal and would turn it over or get double teamed. Also there was a play that Fountain kept trying to get set up where he passed to Cook on the wing and then faked a high pick and rolled to the goal wide open but Cook didn't hit him with the pass. instead he waited a couple of seconds and then passed. These are set plays that work but the execution isn't there. Not sure what the deal was with Ward but he would be good for a few 3's also last night. Definitely a game we should have won.

‘Baker is too quick….’ I didn’t think I’d be reading that on here. ?? I’m guessing you mean it occurs too frequently

I think if we went with less Baker, told him to minimize his dribbling, and got Dean to crash the boards as he normally does, we would be much better off. In truth, it seems that baker’s playing time has been reduced a bit, but he’s still dribbling too much for my liking (and everyone else’s from what I can tell).

As far as cook, he’s got ups and downs. He brought us back in the game last night, though I do think at times he tries to do too much… I’d like to see him focus on involving others a bit more rather than hiking up 3-pointers out of nowhere like he does a few times each game.

Regarding Ward, it’s amazing that we have no info on his absence. If this were football, there would have been dozens of threads about it before the game even happened.

It started out so well with him early in the season. Just in a big slump right now.

Cook has been the 2nd most impactful player since becoming eligible.
