QB Stats Through First 3 Games at LSU
Joe Burrow
Passing: 36/78 (46%) — 540 YDS, 3 TD, 0 INT
Rushing: 22 CAR — 56 YDS, 1 TD
Jayden Daniels
Passing: 57/82 (69.5%) — 556 YDS, 6 TD, 0 INT
Rushing: 35 CAR — 225 YDS, 2 TD
Sam Leavitt
Passing: 57/93 (61.3%) — 732 YDS, 3 TD, 5 INT
Rushing: 40 CAR — 198 YDS, 6 TD
The biggest thing that jumps up at you is the INTs which is actually uncharacteristic of Sam because last year he played in seven games and only threw 3 INTs. In 2024, he played in all 13 games and threw a total of six INTs. Also, the batted balls must get cleaned up. They are killing the offense at times. But, I think he will settle in.

He has had some bad luck with guys intercepting tipped passes, but he needs to work on his throwing motion to not have so many tipped/deflected passes. That 25-30 yard dime he threw to Watkins for a TD shows that he has the ability to put it on the money at times, but mostly he just needs to make balls catchable when guys are wide open. Though the one to Tre Wilson did go through his hands (high as it may have been).
Also, our WRs haven't made any great catches this year that I can remember other than maybe that long one Phillip Wright had against Clemson. The Watkins TD catch was really good too though.

My only surprise about Sam is the moment seems to big for him. He is clearly rattled early in games and in big moments. For a cfb playoff experienced qb that is shocking to me.

Welcome to the SEC Sam!

None of these stats matter.... All in entirely different systems.
Burrow's first year he was playing under Ensminger.
He definitely made MASSIVE improvements from year 1 to year 2...
also, year 2 was under a different system with Brady.

At some point we gotta quit pretending that he had some great performance in the playoff game against Texas.

He didn’t play great but he also made some sick plays against Texas and the moment did not seem to big for him in that game. I think throwing 3 picks the week prior against LA tech had him in his own head

Not comparable.
If you want to consider differences and account for them, please do so.

You left out some key stats
before starting at LSU:
Joe Burrow
Attempted 41 passes in his 2 years before getting here, all in mop up duty. Basically had zero experience, had very little expectations when he first got here considering no one had really seen him play meaningful snaps. Comparing Burrow's first year to JD and Leavitt's first year is not a fair comparison.
Jayden Daniels
Started 29 games in 3 years before getting here. Very experienced before getting here, and thus was expected to be good from the get go, and was. Should have beat FSU in his first game if not for special teams blunders.
Sam Leavitt
Started 20 games in the last 2 years before getting here. Didn't play much his freshman year. Expected to be good from the get go considering he led his team to the CFP. Played a much tougher 3 games than the other two guys, by a lot. Gave us a chance to win this weekend, even though he's also part of the reason we didn't win.
All 3 guys have December birthdays, and turned 22 their first year here.
Point being, no one is interested in giving Leavitt any slack or leeway being his first year here. He's getting paid very handsomely, and he's a very experienced QB. We aren't going to accept growing pains. I'm sure he can get better, but i don't think anyone who has watched the last 3 games has any confidence in his passing game, despite whatever yardage/TD/comp% stats you want to post.

If you are unwilling to accept growing pains then maybe you shouldn’t be a sports fan.

It always looks like his motion is very side-armed with a low release. This probably has something to do with the batted balls??

I really don't think constantly comparing players to 2 of the best QBs in NCAA history is that valuable. Burrow and Daniels are outliers.

Oh frick off with this.
Kiffin, a much better QB evaluator than anyone on this board, isn’t concerned and says this is all coachable.
If you’d like to put up your bona fides against Kiffin’s by all means. No one is stopping you.

Stop with this bull shite.
Completely different teams with different styles of play and Oline and skill players. It takes all 11….
You cannot make these apples and oranges comparisons.
Daniels lost to FSU.
Both of those guys had different issues to deal with. Burrow had a spring and summer.
Daniels had a fall, spring and summer to play.
Daniels had a summer and fall with his LSU teammates.
Yall act like Daniels was a world beater. He wasn’t at all. Just sat there holding onto the ball scared shite less to throw into coverage for a season and 2 games.

5 INT
3 of Leavitt's INT's occurred during a brief 5 minute span in the Tech game when Sam was seeing stars, for whatever reason. Also a fourth happened on a
desperation last-play heave in the endzone Saturday.

Yeah ok bud. Way to respond like an irrational woman.
He's not a freshman. He's not a kid.
He's a professional college football player with plenty of experience. He needs to be better, and is expected to be.
And i said he gave us a chance to win that game. I'm not all doom and gloom on him. I'm ok with losing that game. We should feel good about the fact that we played pretty bad and still had a chance to win, in one of the most hostile environments we've ever played at in the history of LSU football. There's plenty to feel good about, but he, and more importantly the OL, need to be better. We didn't pay him all this money to work through some growing pains in year 1 while we lose 4+ games. That's the scrutiney that comes with the new NIL professional college players.
and i have trust that our coach will put him in better positions to succeed and coach him to be a better QB.

22 carries vs 35 carries vs 40 carries and the INTs are the obvious numbers that jump out to me.
JD is the best running QB of the 3 and he carried 5 fewer times than Leavitt at this point. Currently it seems like Leavitt makes one read then looks to run and if the second read opens up he's already running or he can't settle and make an accurate throw. His body type and arm talent is not good enough (and not nearly as good as those two all time greats) to throw accurately off schedule without a good base.
Leavitt will need to learn to find open THROWING lanes to avoid tipped passes by moving in the pocket where there is a void with his eyes downfield and learn to settle his feet before throwing. If he is a one read and look to run guy, we will not beat teams with a pulse.
