Three thoughts:

1. awful
2. terrible
3. horrendous

Love Jay, but the bunting is frustrating at times.

100% correct call. 1st & 2nd. No outs. Lefty pitcher. He's got to execute.

Why does Johnson's offensive philosophy not include stealing bases, or putting men in motion??

we do that ,not as much as some teams but we do. the better teams usually dont do it much I've noticed.

maybe hes tired of the rant saying that he " ran us out of the inning " every time it doesn't work.
this board will criticize for not doing something and then when we do it ,they bitch because it didnt work.

we hit a lot of doubles and a good amount of homers. thats why we dont try to steal as much as some teams.

I figured the bunt was coming. My aggravation (and everyone else's probably) was 1st and 2nd, 0 outs, and batters 4&5 didn't even make contact. Jake's bunt attempts were just bad, and Jones took a 90mph cream puff fastball that split the plate for strike 2.

cringed when I saw this. Then your cleanup is in the wrong spot! Also, bunting with 2 strikes.
if the lefty had started he wouldn’t be in the lineup

Some folks just pay zero attention.

He gets the bunt down and we get another run. Milam has a chance from 2nd to score.

And thats why I'm not the coach of the LSU tigers. I will assume also he doesn't make them run laps if they screw up during a game.

I don't mind the bunt call to start the at bat. But once he got 2 strikes we needed him to swing away. I know what Jay was doing trying to prevent the double play ball but Jake is an extremely fast player and you have to trust that he will find a pitch to drive or beat out the throw.

It was egregious to have him bunt at all. Keeping it on with two strikes is downright malpractice.

Haven’t watched much baseball in that stadium, have you?

ETA: Or brown against lefty’s for that matter.

They have very little confidence in him hitting a lefty, but didnt want to take him out the game if it was just this 1 lefty he would see. Wanted to bunt to ensure hopefully another run in, dude has just gotta get the bunt down. Next time that situation comes up they might PH for him with Josh Pearson.

this. I love jake, but got to get it down there and Jake would be the first one to tell you that. if he does and it moves runners over and we score more, nobody is questioning it.

it was lefty on lefty and jake has struggled this year with that but didnt want to pull him like you said.

Maybe the coach was irritated Jake didn't get it done the first two attempts.

I think CJJ is just as tired of seeing our guys strikeout on garbage pitches

Should have let him swing with 2 strikes

agreed. he's a high risk to strikeout vs a leftie, but there's a chance he can elevate one and make something big happen. bunting with 2 strikes, there's the risk of striking out, and the best scenario is just advancing the guys, which is important, but with 2 strikes i'd take the potential same risk, higher reward.

We had just hit a home run the inning before. U just kill any chances of a BIG INNING by giving the bunt sign three straight pitches. That is not trusting Brown with contact. Then, he should not be batting 4th. We lucky the catcher gets a hit, or no runs at all....

its so funny...Skip is the one that came up with the 1st & 2nd less than 2 outs automatic bunt rule, but especially with no outs....people wouldnt dare criticize him, but if Jay uses the same rule with a batter that struggles with lefty on lefty matchup.....well he is just a dumbass.

now if it would have worked then everyone would have been praising the call.

so people understand you do it because it takes away the double play. especially when you have a kid that is struggling against lefties.

bottom line is jake didnt execute and if you go ask him...i promise he will tell you the same thing. Nobody and I mean nobody cares as much as Jay on these kinds of things.

The wind was blowing straight in. The chance of him “elevating one” deep enough to move runners against a lefty were probably less than getting a bunt down.

If he gets a bunt down we score an additional run and are up 6-3. It’s exactly why you do it
