Kiffen hasn't done anything wrong. He was doing what was best for his team under the legal rules based on the TRO. The fact that all of this melt came from a one time issue that goes away after this year is proof it was mostly because it was LSU. Didn't hear a word about Texas did you? Kiffen may be smarter than you think. I don't think he is looking to die on any hill. We have a very talented team without these 2 players but this isn't over as far as the players and their attorneys are concerned. They will sue and they will win. Question is will LSU have any financial liability for preventing players who are legally qualified to play.

The SEC is trying to take over the role of the NCAA. Unfortunately for Sankey and the SEC, without anti-trust protection like the pro leagues have obtained, the courts can overrule them as they have the NCAA time after time. I agree with the posters who said that this is between the players who are suing the powers that be and those trying to wield control over them. IF the courts rule in the players favor, they can come down just as hard on the SEC and Big 10 as those conferences are threatening teams with.
I still say the three most vulnerable areas for the conferences are 1) that the 5 for 5 ruling COULD have been made well before the NFL draft for example. 2) because of 1), the class of 2022 is being treated differently than any other recent or future class...2020 and 2021 got an extra year due to COVID and classes after 2022 magically get another year of PLAYING with the 5 for 5 3) if "payment and professionalism" is the problem then why in the hell are European salaried professional basketball players allow to play basketball in college here.

Absolutely right. I don’t understand why people are so upset about this. Kiffin tried to exploit a loophole, which is great. That’s his job, but I am glad the loophole is now closed for everyone. Do you really want every player with extra eligibility coming back to play college ball if he gets cut from an NFL roster? It would be a circus every single year. Players would intentionally leave college early to test out the NFL and then return to college if unsuccessful. It sucks for those 2022 players, but this is about more than just them or LSU. I don’t blame Kiffin for trying, but it’s over. Move on.

I believe if no one can get the 5th yr pro players then that is fair. But if anyone CAN then why not recruit them

Nooooo, this is only a circus for THIS year. Lane Kiffin himself said that he would not try to do this any other year. But the class of 2022 was screwed. They were not allowed to take advantage of the 5 for 5 policy because the NCAA came out with it AFTER the football draft...after the basketball draft...after the baseball draft. All they had to do to avoid this mess for this one single year was to give those seniors the option to take advantage of that extra year if they wanted it. I have heard NO ONE say that if a player opted for the draft KNOWING they had an extra year coming that they should be able to come back to college.

You can’t really believe that. Yes, he would. They all would. Once you set the precedent that it’s okay to get cut from the NFL and return to college, it’s difficult to roll it back. I understand what the SEC is doing. It’s sucks for those kids in the 2022 class.

It's really not that complicated. You just make a rule that states that any player with remaining college eligibility who attempts to play professional football forfeits any remaining eligibility. The whole issue this year is that these guys did not think they had any remaining eligibility at the time that they attempted to play professionally, and that is not a situation that is likely to be repeated.

Time to move for Lane. Coach the team you have and show the rest of college football the team you have. He looks like a buffoon at this point. LSU becoming laughing stock as a brand. Or at least heading that way. Nut up and “spot the ball” lol

I understand what the situation is, but it’s much cleaner to simply say that we aren’t allowing former NFL players to come back to college. Once you enter the draft, you can’t come back. End of story. If you make an exception once, people will want an exception in the future. It used to be once you signed with an agent, you couldn’t come back. That was the universal rule, but with NIL everyone has an agent. There have to be some freaking rules to stop all of this insanity.

Lane is trying to do what the GMs and HCs in the NFL are doing right now, and will soon being doing en masse this Sunday...obtain players they think can help better their team. In the NFL there are guys brought in for workouts every week of the season for the coaches/GM to evaluate whether signing a guy will improve the roster.
I'm certain he is preparing to play the first game, the season, with the roster he currently has. But if he can add a "free agent" to improve the roster he will do so. That's what good coaches/GMs do.

Whats so hard to understand that this is a ONE TIME situation. There is NO FUTURE for this scenario !!!!!!!!!
