McKinley has averaged under 20 naps per game
Should players be napping at all during the game? No wonder he isn't getting many snaps.

This is your entire existence here. Clip a statement or partial statement, ignore everything else in the discussion and use the clip to form your own narrative. You’re a pathetic little troll Lestiny. You’re a clipper, the most dishonest practice on social media today is the only argumentative tactic you posses.

Maybe but nobody wants to answer the question. What’s the expectation, what’s the standard needed for him to play at the level we need? I get it, fans love the new guys but there’s a very slim chance true freshman are going to carry a championship or playoff level defense so McKinley needs to produce. I’m just asking what do you guys think that looks like?

If he has an above average grade in rush defense and can supply some pressure inside from time to time, that would be wonderful. I don’t think anyone has expectations of him being Aaron Donald at this point, but he’s a very solid part of the rotation.
One thing I’ll be looking for is the interior DL possibly having fewer double teams because offenses will have to account for more dangerous edge rushers than we’ve had previously.

That’s about what I’m thinking. He’s more of a modern Nose Guard so he’s not going to be putting up the 6-7 sacks and 12-15 TFL totals. So far in his career he’s played 516 snaps for LSU and produced 5TFLs and 4 sacks. If he can up the TFLs to 7 or more and keep the sack pace that would be a very good season. I don’t think he’ll play 821 snaps like Wingo in 2022 or even 676 like Smith did the following year but if he plays well he can get to 500-520 and those numbers become achievable.

Are you trying to say Brockers wasn't dominant at his position? Because if you think that you don't know anything about that 2011 team. He was the entire reason that DL was incredible. Brockers could not be moved on that line and he'd eat 2 blocks up at once and they still couldn't move him. He was dominant and the biggest reason that talented DL was so good. He freed everyone else up. You don't have to be a quick twitch sack king at DT to be dominant at that position. Brockers was dominant. Nobody could run on LSU and he made the other 3 guys way better at being freed up.

The sad thing about fans is they think because a player is a 4 or 5 star they will come in and be dominate.Nobody takes maturity both emotionally or physically into consideration. Some guys take more time than others to adjust going from high school to college ,give the guy a chance to call him a bust.
You should expect the #3 ranked DT in the country to produce by yr 2. Not a crazy thought by any stretch.

Not at all, I’m basically saying the same thing you’re saying and that’s why I brought him up. Brockers did all the things you said and ended up with 2 sacks and 10TFLs for that season. What I was asking is if people thought McKinley needed to have a Dorsey or even a Drake Nevis type stat line to be considered not a bust when he actually plays a position more like Brockers did than the more upfield/attacking DT the other did.

I think Brockers is one of the most unsung heroes at DT that I've seen play for LSU. He deserves to be in conversation with any of the greats. People forget how good he was because he really only had 1 season to show it then went on to have a great NFL career.

Yea and he wasn’t just a gap plugger, I think it was the 2nd or 3rd game where he penetrated, changed direction and ran down a RB to the sideline. He was a freak.

Not really. If he does ok and then goes nuts next year he probably will do fine.

So how are we gauging his play moving forward? Numbers impact plays? We’ve altered how we play our DTs, he’s more in a NT role now so do we compare him to a Brockers or a Tyler Shelvin or does he need to have a major statistical season?
He simply isn't that good. BayouCowboy's 2 posts were spot on. 1) he was overrated 2) the reason he was overrated was my least favorite word "potential". BC actually used the word that counts..."performance." BTW, I don't film study the DL every game so he MIGHT have been double teamed some but I don't think much. He simply is one of those many, many players not as good as advertised. Not saying he was a bum but simply that if you are supposed 5* quality, you should be a dominate force in one way, shape, or form...he isn't.

So no level of play from him this season can change your mind?
