This is a make or break year for dom McKinley

His first two years here he hasn’t been a bad player by any means but definitely hasn’t lived up to that 5 star recruiting ranking as well. Also seemed like the freshman studs in deuce and Anderson made more noise in spring ball than dom.
It’s truly time for dom to put it together and have an impact season. I think the transfers we got are solid players and the freshmen have exciting potential but damn has been in the program for two years we truly need him to be an force with the size, athleticism and experience he brings to the table.

Needs to be in the rotation enough to make that determination. Looks like he’ll finally get his chance to play this year.

He has shown flashes but completely agree that this is his time. I do think the addition of Lucas and potentially Ed O could greatly improve his technique.

He played quite a bit last year and wasn't a particularly impactful player. That's not to say he can't and won't be great this season. But it's a bit misleading to suggest he just hasn't had much opportunity. He's appeared in 23 games in his career.

He’s played an average of 19.6 snaps per game at LSU

The sad thing about fans is they think because a player is a 4 or 5 star they will come in and be dominate.Nobody takes maturity both emotionally or physically into consideration.Some guys take more time than others to adjust going from high school to college ,give the guy a chance to call him a bust.

It doesn't sound like the OP is calling him a "bust". It sounds like he's saying this season is time to prove he's not one.
As for the fans, when you are a highly ranked recruit fans have high expectations. That's just human nature.

Well I’d ask what’s the expectation? Do we expect him to be comparable to McFarland and Dorsey or do we expect him to be like Lawrence or Brockers because their snap counts vary from about 55-35 per game and again McKinley has averaged under 20 naps per game.

The DT position as a whole didn't produce much last season. Same for DE from a disruptive stand point. They were adequate and held their position for the most part but there was no dynamic element ie sacks, TFLs. I fully expect the DL to play more downhill this season vs holding point. I think there's more trust on the back end and at star for Baker to cut these guys loose and let them be more disruptive.

This is definitely a big year for Dom, but it's hard to hold a player's first year right out of high school against them. He got playing time because we were so bad along the DL, so hopefully we can start building true depth and not have to rely so heavily on true freshman to come in and contribute. It's okay to play true freshmen, but Dom came in with a lot of pressure because we were horrible along the DL.

Feels like Maason smith 2.0. Doesn’t really produce at the college level but talent alone will get him to a 2nd round pick in the draft.

Mason Smith played 582 snaps in 2023. Dom McKinley played 370 last season.

He’s a decent player and good depth but I just don’t see how he beat out Geralds who looks like he’s going to be a freshman phenom or Blocton who was a wall against the run last year for Auburn
