I worry that we will have a lineup full of "good" players, but not enough great ones.

I agree, however, that competition should be good for the group. If you're in the OF or DH, you won't be able to struggle too long at the plate. Figure it out or you'll be watching.

Jay Johnson is the man! By mid March, he’ll have tinkered with the lineup plenty to go scorched earth through the sec slate!

That’s how I feel as well. We have enough options to Atleast platoon positions so that it’s like having a great players output

I love Jay, but we all know that he will tinker with the lineup until the last game of the season no matter how far they get.

its stacked with pitching talent... we are stacked with unproven SEC hitters... hitting will be a problem this year again.

Every team has unproven SEC hitters. We are in the portal era.

Jones, Braswell, Milam, Larson - all hit well in SEC play last year.

Pearson has faced 3 years of SEC pitching + 2 in the cape. Stanfield has faced 2 years of SEC pitching + 2 in the cape. Hit .283 in conference play last year. Brown struggled in the regular season, but performed very well in the post season (5-12 in the SEC tourney).

So, at least 5, if not more, of your starters have experience (and success) against SEC pitching. The rest of your roster is filled by highly recruited freshman or highly recruited transfers. We're not going to run out Hal Hughes, Will Safford, or Collier Cranford on Friday nights.

The thing that I try to remember before every baseball season is that of all the college sports, baseball seems to have the most parity. Are we one of the most talented teams in the country, yes. But, there are 15 teams or more that are talented enough that if they get on a roll at the right time they could win it all.

I believe this years team and national title hopes will fall solely on the pitching staff and staying healthy.

There's a lot of depth there to absorb some injuries this year. The concern is defense behind the plate. A bad catcher can turn wins into losses late in the game. Hopefully we don't have that problem

My opening day lineup pre-spring practice

The only things I might would change would be Priester at DH or Arrambide at catcher and Hernandez and DH.

But it would not surprise me a bit for Jay to give the opening day nod to the veteran Pearson.

The options at DH is a remarkably good problem to have.

Catcher is the biggest concern. Infield will be 3 proven SEC proven experienced players and a very talented Dickerson. You basically have enough experience and talent 2 deep in the outfield for that not to be a problem.

I don’t look at catcher as a “concern” personally. We don’t have a defensive wizard like Milazzo but all 3 should give you Travinski level defense at the worst.

Arrambide probably has an arm that’s even better than Milazzo’s

So I’m not concerned that it’s going to be bad I’m more curious with how it’s going to shake out.

jones will struggle, he only hits bad pitching.. he doesnt hit SEC pitching well at all...

Braswell isnt a hitter

milam is good but undersized

Larson is serviceable...

He hit .277 last year in SEC play which about the avg for the league and for LSU. His OB% was over .400 in SEC play.

He hit.310 in SEC play last year

And so is Altuve

Larson is serviceable.

Our best hitter in SEC play was servicable ?

You are a complete moron if baseball is your profession

Luis Hernandez has really impressed me with his receiving skills behind the plate. He also seems to have a calming presence that keeps the pitchers focused and engaged.

Arrambide is definitely the catcher of the future and if his bat stays hot, may be the predominant starter this year. He has the tools to do so and has done a more than serviceable job being a reliable backstop.

I was pretty impressed with Yamin's performance at catcher also this past weekend. He has excellent reach with his long frame, blocked balls in the dirt adequately and just needs to improve on his pitch zone framing.

Offensively the potential from the catcher position is off the charts with the cumulative potential of these three guys. Add in Priester's power to this mix and it is on a different planet than we have been living on for this position in quite a while.

Not sure why the down votes for Lester. It looks very reasonable.

I downvoted him, but I upvoted yours because I agree with it.

J/K Lester, that was a good guess pre-spring.
