Because with the BCS, it was most always an argument of the top 2 and 3,4 are more deserving. Then after 4, it was 5-6 are more deserving, then 6 its was BS. Now you have 12 and we still have controversy on those as who those 12 are and how we have to include shitty conf champions included (ig Tulane if they win). Only way to fully settle this is go to 32. Take the top 32 and do a full play off. No more crying about here or there or which 2 loss team is better than 3 loss teams in who they played. That’s the only clear solution. Div 2 and high school do it.
This may make the reg season less competitive however. If we go back down or whatever we do, the “committee” needs to be replaced with a BCS type formula and needs to be based on factors other than just win and loss. ND should not get in over TX. And I hate TX. But it’s crap like that on why it’s dumb. Lay it all out and get into the top 32 teams and run the playoff

conference title games meant something in the BCS days. these overblown playoffs are making many useless and just another game to get starters injured.

You're batshit crazy! There are ENOUGH teams in the field. Oh, and BTW, you must be one of those who said "just expand it to 12 teams and there won't be all the complaining about not getting in"....see the University of Texas WHINING like little children and mentioning their good wins. Funny, how they forgot that Florida at 4-8 beat them...they forgot they had to go to OT to beat powerhouse KY...they forgot how Miss State choked their game against Texas in the 4th quarter. There are PLENTY of slots for the teams that DESERVE to be there. No one being left out this year deserved to be in the field of 12. And some could argue a couple of teams IN the field don't deserve to be there.

If they expand, they shouldn’t go higher than 16. Top 8 of those 16 host 1st rd, no bye rds. Some hs play 16 total if they make it to state, nfl plays 17 reg season. This would put college at 17 max if they play in the natty

Its not adding more games.
Cut conference championship games, cut bowl games, have a single 24 team playoff like the FCS with all games except semi's and finals being played at higher seeds home stadium.
The college football field even at 24 teams in the postseason would still have a smaller percentage of eligible participants making the post season than college baseball or basketball.

Duke is in the ACC championship because of a 5-way tie. There is no reasonable way to break a 5 way tie unless they have all played each other, which is not the case and can't be the case in with 16-18 teams in conferences

We're too in between right now. Either go back down to 4-8 and keep the schedules and conferences they way they are, or expand to 32 teams, consolidate to 2-3 big conferences, have more conference games on the schedule, and have overall record be the qualifier.
Any bowl game that isn't a playoff STINKS and is worthless. Move to 32 teams. Only those 32 teams get to have a post-season. The playoff games are the bowl games. More money for TV, more money for bowl sponsors.

Never should have been more than 4, 6, or 8 teams in the first place. This shite is already letting teams that don’t deserve shite be in the playoff. I mean Notre Dame for example? They may only have 1 ranked win all year and 2 losses and don’t play in a conference. That isn’t a championship deserving resume. We don’t need more of those plus 3 losses teams.

The playoff games are not even that competitive until the semi's. When it was a 4-Team Playoff the playoff games weren't even that competitive outside a handful of games. The average margin of victory during the 4 team playoff era was close to 20 points.
Last year was over 14.3 points. Adding more teams will increase that number not reduce it. Unfortutnately though, I do believe they will go to a 16 team playoff and they will stop it there. But 12 was a really good number increasing anymore is just watering down the field.
