Can our great Oline open running paths for our very good RBs? If so, this will give our defense some needed breaks, and we'll be a happy fan base. Plus the run will open up and allow Nuss to stretch the field for our long passing game.

No.

It will be can the D right the ship and not put so much pressure on the offense.

Of all the things our OL is the least of my worries. Might be the only bright spot in this team actually. My initial assessment of every other position group isn’t very positive except for the OL.

This will get downvoted but August is always filled with irrationally positive thoughts regardless of how realistic they might be. Look at this roster without purple glasses and tell me you see All SEC talent all over it. You can’t. We have all new coordinators to go with it too. That’s a recipe for mediocrity.

Please prove me wrong because I can’t wait for the season to start but I’ve never felt this negative about a team since Dinardo.

FYI this is how the media and other fans see our team too so don’t expect much respect.

We know our OL will be good. We don’t know what the defense will be like

Why did you title your thread with a clickbait headline? Do you work for the Advocate?

This OLine can & will push DLs around & open running lanes. Now will the RBs be able to take full advantage of those lanes & shake off or run thru LBs for big gains & 1st downs? I say yes but we shall see.

It’s both. We will have to play complimentary football. Both sides have to help the other.

Nuss doesn’t need to throw a bunch of picks, obviously, but he can’t be so scared to that he doesn’t take chances because he knows the defense can actually get some stops and giving the other team an extra possession here or there is not a death sentence.

And the defense needs to know it can take chances in order to force big plays (sacks, forced fumbles, interceptions) and that when they inevitably get burned a time or 2–like all super aggressive defenses—the offense will pick them up by continuing to score.

Not aimed at you, Rummy, but I’ve never seen a fan base so concerned with offensive and defensive rankings as this one the past year. With there’s obviously a correlation, the goal shouldn’t be to see how highly each unit can be ranked by the end of the year. Cause that’s just an average. The goal is to score more points than the other team and win each individual game. The rankings are a by-product and will take care of themselves.

Nope..pass defense and pass rush. Last year or 2 has been a joke and until we see improvement on the field, there's no reason to believe it's improved

I don't think you can say the last 2 years were a joke. The 2022 defense, while not dominant, was solid. It carried most of the load to a 9-3 record and unexpected SEC West title. Remember, Daniels and the offense had their struggles in 2022. Daniels threw for 80 yards vs. Auburn. 86 v. Arkansas. 189 vs. A&M (though injured). There were a LOT of people who advocated during and after the season for Nussmeier to replace Daniels because "all Daniels does is run. He doesn't throw the ball".

That's why last season's defensive performance was such a surprise. Most expected maybe a slight step back, if anything. But NO ONE expected the complete collapse. There was no reason to given how the defense performed in 2022

No. The defining story will be: can the D get off the field with 3 and outs or stops at midfield forcing punts.

There was more pressure on the defense than there was on the offense last year

Kyren Lacy catching 7 TDs last year while also playing alongside two first round WRs is pretty positive. I think WR is a bright spot on the team

We have a lot of question marks, but I feel more confident than you about our RB room and our receivers (TEs and WRs).

For RBs, Jackson is a stud that will have a great year, Josh Williams is a nice steady player that will do his job, and the Durham kid will flash the talent and speed he used against some of the best high school teams in the nation. This group will excel.

We are loaded at the TE spot with 3 studs. The speed at WR will stretch the field allowing many opportunities for the TE studs to be serious weapons this year. The arm strength of Nuss along with our WR speed will stretch defenses allowing the TE talent to do some things.

Both of these points require good play calling and a good mix of run and pass.

KWL85, I totally agree with you. Just need to see that "push" from our Oline. They've excelled at pass blocking but to my eyes, not quite so much at run blocking. Do I think they will? Yes, but I look forward to seeing it.

You serious Clark?

Nuss - potential all sec to all American
Caleb Jackson / Josh Williams - potential all sec running behind that oline
Lacy - potential all SEC
Taylor - will be all SEC
Campbell - all american
Jones- all American
Zavion Thomas - freshman all american as returner

Womack - potential all SEC (highly recruited, showed flashes fresh year with no dline coach and now has the best edge coach in country)
Guillory- sleeper 2nd team or higher all SEC potential. Strong as an ox and bo davis is coaching him
Perkins - will be all SEC, potential all american
Secondary has young talent, who steps up remains to be seen.

This idea that we dont have SEC talent is fricking ridiculous. Even without "purple tinted glasses" we've recruited in top 10 with 1 top 12 over the last 5 years.

One thing huh? I can name a few others...does Nuss stay healthy, do our DTs and DBs step up, does an asteroid hit the stadium

Totally agree with you take on this. I also believe that house was just that bad, and lost the team and respect from his players.
With Davis, People's, and Baker at the helm and we can get players to do there job and how there gaps, and play sound defense we will be ok. Anything is better than what we witnessed last year, it still turns my stomach thinking about what we had to watch last year! With that said #GEAUXTIGERS And let's get it!!

The story of the season depends on Nuss. We aren't gonna run a Les Miles offense.
