It’s an unpopular opinion but I believe that it’s our strength and conditioning program.

I can't disagree with this. The O-line gets dominated and the D-line isn't a lot better against Bama. 10 years ago this wasn't the case. The recruiting gap by the numbers just isn't that big.

It's getting a little traction. LSU must evaluate the s/c program NOW. Look at the film and look how we are getting beat. We are road graders trying to pass block in a spread scheme. It ain't happening folks. We needed to be ahead of this 2 years ago. It ain't happening over night. Moffitt has failed in this endeavor. These were highly regarded olinemen out of high school and upon arrival, nothing was done to get leaner, stronger, quicker with balance, and by DEFAULT, much more athletic. Look at bama's olinemen they are all of the above and here we are wondering why. Outside of the Miles philosophy, we ain't ready for any other scheme. It's not high school and it MUST start with Moffitt. Only then will we be successful at any other scheme.

Also did the OP allow for the guys that got processed when O got hired?

. That Absolutely didn’t happen. Theuma was a loss because in 2016, he didn’t pay attention to details.
I guarantee you that doesn’t happen with Miles or Saban

LSU uses 5 guards which is great for running the ball not so good for passing.

Our rushing numbers say otherwise. And Deculus is a tackle.

Salient facts

4-or-5 stars for Bama = 17
4-or-5 stars for LSU = 11

Ergeaux: Bama has roughly 50% more high grade Olineman to choose from as starters and depth than does LSU.

That is the most favorable compare. Not counting how Bama had 3 5-stars vs LSU's 1 5-star.

Please. Please. Don't start a thread which is very invalid in it's main premise.

You need to be careful with statistics-- they can always be twisted. For example-- your numbers show that Bama has recruited 300% more 5 stars on their O line than we did and 40% more 4 stars. Additionally, they have 25% more players recruited on the O line. Using the same "facts", it appears they are and should be killing us.

Twist it all you want, Bama's recruiting ranking is tops for a legitimate reason.

While we are poking holes in OP’s argument.. let’s look at the starting five for LSU and Alabama. Below are their 247 ratings and the position they were recruited as out of high school:

LSU
Saahdiq Charles (4*) 0.9038 OG
Garrett Brumfield (4*) 0.9526 OG
Lloyd Cushenberry (3*) 0.8238 OG
Damien Lewis (3*) 0.8656 OG
Austin Deculus (4*) 0.9772 OT
LSU Average: 0.9046
(If you swap Deculus for Magee the average drops to 0.8846)

Alabama
Jedrick Wills (4*) 0.9831 OT
Alex Leatherwood (5*) 0.9981 OT
Ross Pierschbacher (4*) 0.9657 OT
Deonte Brown (4*) 0.9258 OG
Jonah Williams (5*) 0.9877 OT
Alabama Average: 0.9721

So if the premise of the OP was that the OL recruiting isn’t a gap..

Whatever you want to call it several players left the program when O took over.

You happy with his play this year? And he's the only one that isn't a converted guard. LSU lacks prototypical offensive tackles.

Don’t know why so much stock is put in “stars”. Could it be that many linemen were overrated and not evaluated correctly? Miles did deep and long-standing damage to the overall health of our OL by loading up on splashy receivers and not paying attention to the trenches. Not as glamorous or fun but certainly more important.

This is huge. 19-20 year olds vs 21-22’s. That’s men vs boys.

In our case, it seems more likely that they were evaluated correctly and the more talented guys out of HS continue to be more talented guys in college. The recruiting numbers have been a pretty accurate predictor of the difference in performance in the field.

People ignore the regression Charles has had with Cregg coming in.

Again, name one outside hire that O’s made that has been an outright success and you can’t. They’ve all been bad to mediocre. One player improving doesn’t make a position coach great.
