Charles is a guard playing tackle. He's not athletic enough to play tackle.

LSU's main problem with it's offense is not the offensive line. It's not who is on the field, it's who is coordinating the players on the field. SE is not good enough to compete with the Sabama's and the Clemson's and the elite in college football. Canada was. But Orgeron fired him. There is no exact science in recruiting which recruits will excel at the collegiate level. You will get some right and get some wrong. The more you sign the better chance you have of getting a good one. The numbers here that stick out to me is the 22 and 18. If LSU wants to start competing with the elite they must put more emphasis on the linemen. That's where games are won and lost, in the trenches.

You say.

Then this.

You just showed that not only were our stars lower on average but they signed 22 and we signed 18. That’s more than 20% more linemen AND higher rankings. You would needed a weighted average to be more helpful but how your would weight it would be up to debate. Also our 5 Star kept getting in trouble and had to leave the team. Not all 5 stars are created equal with being a discipline problem making some top programs not recruit them hard if at all.

There are some other differences the OP leaves out.

Alabama has C with depth G with depth T with depth.

LSU has C with G depth, G with G & TE depth, gTg with G & TE depth

maybe it's a talent evaluation problem

I think it's more of a talent development program than anything else.

The problem with your analysis is that LSU Oline doesn't compete with Bamas OL !!!
