So basically we have come full circle back to where we were before Saban and Emmeret came here. The good ole boys who don't know anything about football are back to calling the shots

As much as I love LSU football, if this is true I side with Alexander. Although it would have cost LSU nil, to pretend like the wealthy TAF donors have nothing to do with electing the governor and legislature that have cut LSUs funding repeatedly over the past several years is naive...they are largely the same people. I have a problem with people who pay money to get funding to the schools academics cut and then expect us to forget about it when they wanna hire a 7 million dollar coach. If that is their priority they are free to form a professional football team. Although LSU football is a close second, LSUs academics have always been 1st in my head and if you disagree you should examine yhe definition of the word University
Dude. Its their money. Why should the school have any say in how they spend it. Especially if the investment is going to greatly benefit the school itself.
They just screwed themselves in this whole deal.

Mark Emmert hired Saban and came up with a master plan without any strategic plan for fundraising to support the plan. That's it.
There's a reason why he left academia.

I tried to tell people. Didn't understand the faith they had in LSU higher ups.

Saban and Emmert were just what LSU needed at that time in history: two outsider alpha males with the stones and gravitas to keep the politicians at bay. Saban and Emmert (and others like Radakovich) were completely focused on making LSU relevant in football on an annual basis above all other factors.
Alleva does not have that power and influence to overcome the powerful political self interests that have always existed at LSU and in Louisiana. Their influence was significantly reduced since 2000 but they have been slowly returning to power.
I think they are fully back now.

" Serving as Miles’ offensive coordinator is the closest thing to career suicide you can get in football"
We are so screwed.
We are so screwed.

The poltiics don't surprise e a bit. What's bad is now there is no way to pressure Miles to stay out of the offense and to get rid of BDP.

Contrast this to Bama's hiring of you know who. That was kept real secret until the right time.
Are you kidding? That shite show lasted for over a month. Saban took the job at the beginning of January 2007. He was denying the reports as far back as November.

Now why would boosters contribute over 20 million on getting rid of a coach (as frustrating as he is to watch) for a marginally better coach when that money could be donated instead to the med school or to give LSU teachers and fricking raise (which they haven't got in years). If the boosters really cared about the school, they should keep in mind why a buyout like the one proposed makes the school looks embarrassing. As it should be: academics first, athletics second. Period
Shouldn't boosters get to decide where their money goes to? If they want to spend their own money on the LSU football program then let them - its their money. I bet the money that was going to be used for a buyout will not all of a sudden be donated to the Math Department.

Of course. The issue you run into is that it's LSU's job to best align the fundraising priorities of the University. Allowing the buyout shows the 4th Floor and State Legislature that they have put a priority in this area.
That's fine, provided LSU can sustain the impact that could come from decisions made at the Capitol.

Of course not, but as I noted above, the decisions made will have an impact on the Math Department, among others.

To an extent, absent the money issue, this is similar to Daddy Dale's firing back then, as it's been widely reported that Dean wanted to fire Daddy Dale a year before it finally happened but the LSU prez would not allow it due to......politics. Dale had huge supporters in the State Capital. This is just very old news.

This is in reference to the difference between LSU and Alabama.
I am a graduate of LSU, but have relations and friends in Alabama and am there frequently.
Alabama expects and demands that its football team be nothing less than a champion. Unfortunately, fans at LSU expect and demand less.

If F. King Alexander killed this potential step forward for the football program, he deserves every bit of criticism that is about to be directed his way.
If Jimbo backed out, fine I can at least stomach that. I understand that there aren't many options better than Les Miles. But if Alexander/LSU bowed out, then the fury needs to be unleashed on the President's office. If he wants to play politics with the football program, then he better be good ... Because what goes around comes around.
