The most passing we should see is what we saw from the 1990s Dallas Cowboys. They ran to set up the pass and that is why Aikman and Irvin never had great numbers. Emmitt got all the numbers, plus Cam Cameron is from that same coaching tree as Norv Turner and Ernie Zampese.

No offense OP but your lack of football knowledge is showing. If you want to go deep in the play offs you will need a passing game, period. Harris has to use the next two games to get into a rhythm with the WRs.

I expect it to open up more against these weaker opponents coming up. Plus South Carolina has some of the worst pass defense in the country

When we paly Ole Miss and Bama, we will need to be able to pass the ball effectively. Auburn sucks and will probably finish last in sec.

Have none of you realized that Les loves to run the ball when teams load the box?
This is like throwing a deep ball to him.
If 10 are in the box, we have 8 blocking in the box and we assume 1 guy is unblocked and has to stay on his side of the defense in case of a reverse or bootleg. If everyone makes a good block (in Les's terminology, executes the play) that leaves 1 guy for Fournette to truck or juke and its a TD b/c there's no one left to tackle him.

We beat Ole Miss last year and Jennings did everything he could to lose us that game. All Harris needs to do is play smart and execute the plays he's asked to run and we won't lose a game. Harris actually has the skills to execute the plays, Jennings did/does not.

So 7 points in the final three quarters against Miss St was fine with you?

Are you really still on about this? It was two weeks ago and if you think that is indicative of how the season is going to go, then man it must really suck for you to be an LSU fan under Les Miles.

In no way was Les going to let BH cost us that game. I am not saying he would have or would not have succeeded given the chance but that was the man's second start after a horrid first start last year. Everyone and their mom knows BH has the physical tools. But the qb position requires the most mental toughness of any position in football imo. Kid needed confidence. He's building it. It will come. We are 2-0 and more importantly 2-0 in conference play. Get over it already!!!

thanks for he words of wisdom, OP.

instead of saying not built to sling the ball, you had it that we're not coached to do it.

that is not les" philosophy.

I don't know where these guys get the idea that les miles is going to adopt an aggressive passing attack. He is not.

He will throw when he needs to. When we have to throw, he will expect his team to execute.

I was responding to a post that said, "we haven't needed a passing game yet." I have said nothing negative at all about the Auburn game, but to say that the plan for the last 3 quarters at Miss St was on point would be incorrect.

any way I don't think people realize how much more diverse our offense was in the Auburn game than it had been in the past. You could really see a offense starting to develop into a much more diverse style that will only continue to develop as the season moves forward. NO we won't throw it 30 times a game, but we will throw on 1st downs, on 2nd and short, and other situations where the down/distance doesn't dictate a passé. We will use a wide variety of passing plays including passing to the TE's and RB's out of the backfield. etc. The running game had a lot of misdirection plays infused into it. Just a lot going on with the offense all of a sudden. It may be a run heavy offense but there is nothing simple or plain jane about it any more.

It was just one game but I think it was just the beginning that we will build on and it appears the passing game is going to play a bigger role in it.

I agree with all of the above.

Even when we were just "running the ball", there was some misdirection, there were pull/keep options. It was not as rudimentary as I formation, two tight ends, run off tackle. There was enough going on last Saturday to keep the Auburn defense spread out and not 100% sure where the ball was going before the snap.

I have to say it is pretty amazing how many seem to think that throwing the ball 13 times/game is a recipe for winning the SEC.

49 yds passing?? Really?? That is going to beat Bama and Ole Miss.

We can't just decide "Hey it's November" lets work on the passing game now that we play Bama, Ole Miss and A&M.

Doesn't work that way. Have we not seen enough 4-5 loss season's with great running backs to know better... Yes I know Fournette is a notch above them but still. Gurley is a special RB but UGA lost plenty of big games with him in the backfield they didn't have a passing game to match the running game during those times.

We can easily win 8-9 and possible 10 games with the offense we saw against AU but it will not win the SEC and earn a spot in the playoffs.

Are we going to wait on LES to get the passing game rolling?? Good luck

We'll pass when we need to. When Ole Miss has 8 men in the box and we run play action, maybe then you'll realize that you're not as smart as the LSU coaching staff. In fact, you're plain ole stupid.

While I have recently as an hour ago stated that LSU at its peak, will probably average 24 passes and 192 yards, I could see us hitting anywhere from 200-230 on average by the end of the regular season.

Agreed.

There is no predetermined magic number of passes that wins a game. And people act like LSU isn't working on an effective passing attack if they don't see it against a couple teams.

I think LSU will open it up with the passing if nothing else than it will be a noisy environment, LSU will win in all likelihood, and BH needs to establish some rhythm with his receivers. What better way to do this than during an away game where there is noise.
I have a feeling we will need an effective passing game at least as a threat for Bama and OM.

Against lesser talent, it should be able to open up. But against the SEC West opponents, I like the game plan that is working.

Just to disagree a bit.I would argue that the passing game is being advanced slowly, deliberately and cautiously. The running attack affords us the luxury of this prudent, no-risk approach. Still in the early season, Brandon is acquiring experience and with each error free performance is gaining both confidence and comfort at the position. The passing game will continue to expand as the season progresses and by the time the back arrives and barring key injuries, we should have a very balanced offense.

Remember everyone screaming put mett in let him get some practice and game experience?

Remember everyone screaming let mett sling it against cupcakes to practice for bigger games.

It changes now?
