SEC rank is a better indicator for offense because we play tough SEC teams. I will defend miles, canada and ensminger here in that we will never play in a NO defense league with everybody playing AIR RAID and getting gaudy national stats we will never match.

however the YPP, PYPA and RYPA are very telling.

if you look at the raw numbers vs 2017, we're underperforming

Because those 2017 numbers include quite a few more gimme games. Again, you're not wrong in principle, but it's hard to look at cold hard numbers apples to apples when there isn't really a baseline yet.

We're currently 29th in total defense. You think that's an accurate representation?

We're 6th in S&P+ defense. Those same metrics, which take into account the opponent and multiple other factors, have us at 76th offensively. That's still very poor.

So just use the Southeastern game...

Hey, H-Man, that 48% was good enough to beat two top 10 teams. Ask Miami & Auburn fans how they felt after the LSU games.
You guys keep looking for better stats....here are two stats to consider: 3-0 & 0 turnovers.

Sweet thanks for pointing that out. As we all know how you won 1-2 particular games is a 100% guaranteed blueprint for how you can win every other game

I agree the offense needs improvemwnt but 2 games against great defenses and zero turnovers. Not great but they did enough. 3rd down performance much better at aub. Keep the pedal to the metal.

Yards/play is somewhere in the 50s, which I would argue is probably giving the offense in that game TOO much credit given how poor the second half was.

For the 18th time, I'm not sitting here saying the offense has been good. I'm saying looking at these national rankings circa week 3 is a poor way to look at it objectively and draw any sort of conclusions other than it better improve vs La Tech and Ole Miss, which shouldn't be news to anyone.

Well when we lose a game because we can't move the ball, then what? We've seen this before. shite we saw it against bama in 16 with the same coaches, yet this offense hasn't even come close to performing at 16s level before that game.

Have we turned the ball over all season? We are doing what it takes to beat good teams. Defense and special teams. Who cares if we complete 50% or 5% of our passes if we beat top ten teams away from home?

I can assure you we'll turn the ball over. What I can't assure you is that we have the offense capable of overcoming a turnover or two.

Also, we've had 10 first downs by penalty already this year, which is 6th in the country. Penalties represent nearly 20% of our first downs all year, and that blows away the rest of the country. That's not sustainable.

Well 0 turnovers won't continue forever, and if the other numbers don't improve, we're in trouble.

The record is all that matters and so far O, Alleva and Ponamsky are living right.

because we play better teams later this season, and we'll need a good offense to have a chance against them.

Being happy with poor offensive stats and <50% completions in each game is burying your head in the sand. That won't get it done against Bama and UGA, and maybe not against MSU and A&M.

We don't need to score 50 per game, but we need a better offense to compete against the top teams.

I know you're not arguing the offense is even average so far, but just to drive home that point -

In 2017 we had only 3 individual games worse than our current average of 5.08 yards/play - MSU, Alabama, and UT. We also had 7 games better than our BEST offensive output this year of 6.09 yards/play.

My only argument is that our current recipe for winning leaves zero margin for error. It's incredibly difficult to sustain without significant improvement from the offense.

Because the team has been the beneficiary of some outstanding field position thanks to the defense, namely a pick 6 vs Miami and turnovers deep in opponent territory in all 3 games.

If our defense continues to give us the ball deep in opponent territory at least once a game then offensive output won't matter as much. If that doesn't continue some negative regression could be imminent.

There’s a decent point there, but we played Miami and Auburn not the 85 Bears and 2000 Ravens. No one would expect 500+ yds and 50 points. But we are completing less than 50%!of our passes and 3rd down efficiency is terrible also we’re scoring in the red zone but not enough TDs

And we still beat 2 top 10 teams. Now they must improve as the season goes, like most offenses do. Well most but LSU, can this be the year we get better instead of worse as the season goes??

no, not if the records masks problems. Go back to 2015, we started 7-0 and rose to no. 2 in the rankings. But we struggled on offense, especially passing. We rode Fournette to wins against inferior teams.

But when we hit the meat of our schedule in November, we lost 3 straight, each by double digits, because we were one-dimensional and our opponents knew it.

Just looking at the record, without looking at everything else, isn't enough.
