I think it's the school that officially registers the player for the transfer portal.
I think I read it in the faq for transfer rules on the NCAA website. The player is supposed to tell his coaches/administration that he wishes to transfer and the school has 2 days to enter him into the portal.

It's pretty obvious that gilbert isn't going to be at lsu next season. He's prob just talking to schools right now to see where he wants to go. It wouldn't surprise me if this goes on for a while bc he seems like the type of kid that's very indecisive and always 2nd guesses his decisions. I just don't see how in the hell he could come back to lsu after all that's transpired with him opting out for the final 2 games and then entering the portal.

Dude, we are fricking lsu. We will always have shitloads of receivers to throw the ball to that will be very talented. We are blessed in the area we happen to be located and the sheer amount of talent that this area of the country produces. Yeah, alot of our receivers are inexperienced, but I know for sure that some will step up and produce when called upon. We just have skill talent out of the arse.
Just look at bama for instance. Saban has recruited louisiana very hard and has made it a priority to land kids from here not only to win him titles, but to make sure lsu doesn't get all of our in state talent bc it would just be unfair. Could you imagine if we had devonta smith on our team last three years with the rest of our wrs? Lol. Then you add together all of the talent they have from here on their roster besides him too and it's safe to say that without louisiana talent helping bama out, they wouldn't have been as successful as they have been and prob woukd have a couple less titles right now. Devonta smith is responsible for a natty all by himself as a freshman when he scored that td on vs uga to win the game on the last play in ot. They were in deep shite and prob would have lost the natty without him that day. That's the truth of how talented louisiana is.

Don't completely rule out CEO saying he was in the portal to try and bait somebody too. Then report them for tampering. It's been done to us enough; I'd be happy to see it.

Hope he ends up elsewhere outside the SEC or outside the west at least. Never understood how a guy can be 6'6" 250lbs and considered the greatest TE/Athlete recruit of all time yet could be so mentally soft.
In 8 games, Gilbert gets more targets, catches and yards than OJ Howard's 13 game freshman and 13 game sophomore years (in just 8 games with mostly a true freshman QB). Yet he quits midseason on his team.

He was on pace for more targets, catches, yards, and TDs as a true freshman than Moss had last year with Joe Burrow. If he’s upset by his usage, then he’s an idiot

I think Gilbert expected another Natty , & when LSU was being blown out every game , he bailed . If the suspended rumors are true it was the final straw. He's not looking for a home team, he's looking to se if he can play for a championship next year before the NFL.
