All it really shows is that early in his career Lane wasn't completely focused but now he has his shite together and he is about to dominate college football.
The media is hating on him now because it gets clicks after the way he left Ole Miss. Just wait until Lane wins a championship. They will do another 180 on Lane and will be pushing the redemption narrative that they were pushing last year when he was at Ole Miss.
