It's been talked about a lot about how Days goes, our team goes. I decided to start looking into his stats a bit more, and it's actually quite shocking.

In 8 LSU losses (he missed @Bama) Darius Days is 2 for 28 from 3...that's 7%

However, in LSU's 18 wins, he is 46 for 93 for 49.4%

That is a STAGGERING contrast. I think LSU showed vs Alabama that they can win despite Days having a good game, but if LSU is to make any type of noise or pull off some wins, he has to give us some points. The scariest thing about Days is that usually his first one falls and he makes a lot, or he misses the first and makes none. I'll be holding by breath his first shot tomorrow...

In games he scored double digits we are 18-1, the lone loss being the Texas Tech game he scored 11 in and got hurt and missed most of 2nd half.

In games he didnt score double digits in we are 0-8.

It's wild how much his numbers have impacted LSU's chances of wining or losing.

I've been noticing it all season. Days seems to be the catalyst for this team. Those numbers are crazy.

His performance is critical, but I think it has to do with ball movement. When he is playing well all the players touch the ball and then they lock in on defense. When the offense gets one-on-one standing around the defense looks lackluster.

I don’t think DD has four bad games against Alabama which is why I like LSU in the potential 1986 scenario we have on our hands.

One would think that with Wade being a great numbers guy, when he sees that Days isn't close on his first two to three 3-pointers, he would try to get him to work more down low for easier points to get some offensive production out of him with his size. I feel like in games where he has struggled lately, it's like he shoots mostly all 3s or doesn't get involved in the offense. He is fully capable of scoring down low or in the mid-range.

Bama was able to switch screens and it not create a mismatch. There aren’t many teams that can do that. Days is always been to key to LSU success the whole season. A lot of it is because when Days is getting touches it’s a different style LSU is playing than when he isn’t. it means they are sharing the ball more than usual. He isn’t a ball handler and has to get his points on assists and put backs.

I’ve examined this too & just slightly misleading

IIRC he has an 0-8 game from 3 in a loss. And two more where he went 0-5.

Yea, that isn’t good, but it’s a big chunk of the sample size you are talking about.

I think the correlation of Days’ play in losses stems more from involvement then it does straight up bad play.

He is the most important player on this team, the thing that hurts him is when he is missing shots he gets down on himself and it effects the rest of his game and tends to get in foul trouble. It will be important to get him going early on Saturday

Perhaps maybe more than any player on this team (and any player in the last several years) he confidence goes from one extreme end of the spectrum to the other. If he makes his first three you can almost guarantee the next one is going to go down as well. And if he is feeling it he is a guy that can literally give 8 points and 5 rebounds in a span of 5 minutes. But when he is off his body language looks like a guy who is completely defeated. Say what you want about Watford, Smart and Thomas, but those guys NEVER lose confidence in themselves. Even to their team's detriment at times. They don't care if they have missed 6 shots in row. They fully believe the 7th is going to go down and they are on the cusp of a career night. Days has to get a little bit of that in his psyche

You usually have a good sense of where Days is about 5 minutes into the game.

I like us too, but we have to first get past St Bonny, Michigan, and Fla State. That's a tough stretch before we even sniff Bama.

First things first.

He played 32 min vs Bama and got 12 rbs but only 2 pts. I figured he was gone after this season but wonder if he'll come back to improve his consistency?

All you have to look at is LSU's records when he scores 10+ vs. when he doesn't.

LSU is 18-1 when he scores 10+. The one loss is the Texas Tech game where he left with injury in the second half

LSU is 0-7 when he scores less than 10.

It is crazy that the success of your team seems so completely tied in to the scoring of you 4th leading scorer. But for whatever reason it almost unequivocally is for this team.

that's really the only thing that can explain it. Sure, every shooter has cold stretches, but Days is either red hot or ice cold.

It has to be mental, but physically that huge swing in his numbers just doesn't make sense.

So true

The reason for this is that, when Days isn't getting a lot of looks, it's because we aren't moving the ball around, and Thomas or Smart are just taking the ball and driving or shooting with out passing to the open guy.

That’s true, but he’s still not making any in our losses. As Alt said, I think it’s more about confidence me that shots falling so his effort is there. He can get quite pouty when he’s not making shots
