Make week one a ranked matchup. You have college gameday coming into town and is the only big game week one. They decide to make Clemson the first team out of it, would have been cool to have a ranked matchup week one.

It's already the primetime gameday matchup, who cares.
People would have just cried and said it was to boost a potential win for an SEC team anyways. If clemson takes care of business the rest of the way we'll have the ranked win when it matters.

There are about 64 independent voters. Some decided to rank them, many didn't. Putting Clemson in just because would have been very dishonest. They are not a good enough team to be ranked, and it will be made clear why that is in 19 days.
ETA: This is the first time in 15 years (2011) that Clemson is not in the preseason rankings.

If Clemson deserved to be ranked coming into the season, they would be.
They had a lackluster season last year with losing a ton of NFL talent and not replacing them in the portal. It’s not a stretch to say they’re a less talented team than last year when they went 7-6, so why should they be ranked coming into the season?

One of the few times we’ll see an electric Tiger Stadium crowd while hosting an unranked opponent.
We’ve had some lackluster dud crowds in recent non conference home matchups (UCLA, Syracuse, Washington off the top of my head)
Shouldn’t be a problem for the Clemson game. Lots of excitement and anticipation for this one

Gameday is already there and a nightgame. Who cares. Preseason rankings literally mean nothing. Seems like a really weird gripe to have right now.

Honestly, I was surprised they were ranked in the Coaches' poll.
Clemson struggled last season with an experienced returning starter at QB and several future NFL draft picks. Only Ohio State (11), Alabama and Texas A&M (10) had more...and they all made the CFP.
Now those guys are gone. Dabo still doesn't like using the transfer portal. They haven't had a top 10 HS recruiting class in 4 years, and they have a QB who has started 1 game in his career. That's not to say they will be an easy opponent vs. LSU. But, objectively, there is not a ton to like about Clemson in terms of ranking them.
