Make NO mistake. LSU really wanted to win that game. Johnson over-thought the situation in the 3rd.
He knew Ack was getting to the end of his day and wanted to change pitchers with a right handed batter coming up. He did…and it was the difference in the game. 6-7 more pitches for Ackenhausen wasn’t going to shelve him for an appearance 5-6 days later. Just a bad move that Tennessee took advantage of.
He didn’t run out a bunch of bums following Ack. Had he truly “not cared about winning” he would have. Why not?
Two things can be correct. LSU really wanted to win and Jay made a poor managerial decision. It happens.

Not every decision works out. The important thing was to have everyone ready for next week. Putting ULLOA in made sense. Ack went oce thru the lineup. ULLOA was pitching well and was on the fricking dias as one of the players of the game this week. Easy to second guess but the decision was fine. I'll trust JJ on those.

Congrats on turning the season around. LSU will be tough to beat in a regional or super with all the arms y’all have.

I don't think he thought about it at all. Ack was going one time through the order. End of story. He wanted Ack to get us started on the right foot and he did. Ack may be needed on Friday. He's a reliever that has thrown alot of pitches in the last 10 days.

Why don’t you loan your 20/20 hindsight glasses to Jay next time a-hole!!!!

So are we back to fire Jay and he can only win with other coache's players?

Tennessee has a much deeper pitching staff this year. We couldn’t afford to burn any arms ahead of the regional in order to give us the best shot at advancing. Winning would have been great, and we came much closer than I ever expected given the situation. Winning today was only going to happen if we could do it without compromising the larger goal.

One run game, and we had chances. Just needed that extra hit to put pressure on them…..it never happened.
